Apr 29, 2013 - Moving onward
Hi Everyone! I realized today that it has been several days since I updated our travel journal.....just SO busy :) On Friday April 26th, we left Tacna, AZ where we had been for 3 months! Neither one of us was sorry to leave. We did meet some very nice people who were also full time RVers and that was great. We met our friends, John and Joyce; who told us about a wonderful RV Park that they stayed at in New Mexico for a few months. Gary and I have decided to give that park a try in October.....but, we have lots of time and places to see in...

Apr 28, 2013 - Benson Bluegrass The End
Our last day at the Benson Bluegrass Festival and we're sorry to see it end. Three new groups today and a lot of Gospel music. The group Greenwood Sidee is made up of people who got their start in Jam Pack and they are great. The Desert Routes group was an older group and pretty sharp. The group I've labeled Benson Burners was a group of young people introduced to instruments this weekend at the "petting place" with some help from some of the performers. The same couple who makes Jam Pack possible spends their weekend with this group. Just...

Apr 27, 2013 - More Bluegrass
Back to the festival for another day and equally as rewarding as yesterday. A couple of new groups with some super performers and a chance to see sharing at it's finest. The Anderson Family has Mom, Dad, daughters 19, 17 and 12 and a 15 year old son. Mom and Dad are just support. All were great, but the 12 year old sings way beyond her years. She carried one note for what seemed like minutes, and right on key. A truly talented family. The bass player for Special Consensus was putting on a real show when he broke a string on his bass....

Apr 26, 2013 - Bluegrass in the Park
Today was another of those special days that have frequently occurred on this trip, where we weren't supposed to be somewhere, but experienced something great because we were. The only reason we're in Benson is to find a lower altitude after the lung issues in Flagstaff. Since arriving we've visited Saguaro National Park on two occasions, spent some time underground in Queen Mine, and even visited Tombstone. Today we went to a Bluegrass Music Festival and we listened to some very talented and entertaining groups. We arrived when it started...

Apr 25, 2013 - Beautiful Pics with Technical Problems
Sorry folks but no pics. Had a great day at Saguaro National Park on Tuesday finding many Saguaro with early blooms. Spent lots of time there, had a great picnic and saw several creatures who live with the Saguaro. Took lots of pics, but Our Trip Journal has some sort of problem and won't let us post pics. In thitechiederful techi world we now live in, the help staff at My Trip Journal is apparently on a three day break and obviously don't realize that we paid money for a service to use daily. They haven't even told me to be patient yet,...

Apr 21, 2013 - Not Much
We did two things today that we have rarely done on this trip. The first was that we did what we planned. The second is that our plan was to lounge around and do nothing. So we made a plan and stuck to the plan. Even forgot there is a pool here. Did check out some fishing, but released all. Attaching a few more cactus pics.

Apr 7, 2013 - Benson, AZ
The start of our 2013 travel was less than ideal. We got to Benson without incident, but had a lot of fun for our first time setting up with the trailer, met some really nice people from Alberta, Canada, and got to ride with them to Bisbee and Sierra Vista. Harley enjoyed running in the desert, and all too soon we left for Texas and our first stop, Van Horn.

Apr 3, 2013 - Tombstone, Az....
I'm running a few days behind in posting and will try to catch up soon. We've actually been in Casa Grande for the past few days visiting with Larry's childhood friend Gary and his wife Lynne. But more on that later. Today's post continues with our day trip to Tombstone which was laid out on March 5, 1879. At that time Tombstone had 40 cabins and 100 people. Allen Streets lots sold for $5. By June 20, 1880 there were 3,000 people in the town and by late 1881 there was over 7,000 people in town and more gambling houses, saloons, and a larger...

Mar 31, 2013 - Bisbee, Arizona...
This will be a two part post covering the towns of Bisbee and Tombstone. I hadn't planned to take as many pics as I did, but the architecture in this small mining town was just too good to pass up! Bisbee is a historic old west town located 5,300 feet above sea level in Arizona's southeastern corner, two miles from the Mexican border & about 30 miles from Tombstone. It is the county seat of Cochise County. The community was founded in 1880 and named after Judge DeWitt Bisbee, a financial backer of the Copper Queen Mine. Built by Arizona's...

Jan 26, 2013 - Moving Day
This morning we got up and readied the trailer for leaving. Time to head to Casa Grande, Arizona! About a 2 hour plus drive west. Arlene and John had invited us over for sticky buns and coffee so we spent about an hour with them. We hope to see them sometime before they head back to Colorado where they have their home. Great friends, enjoy them so much. Off we went on our next adventure, and it was, that is for sure…we just didn’t know it. When we got to our campground (Casa Grande RV Resort) we were told there was a dinner for $6.00 each....

Jan 25, 2013 - Monastery & Tombstone
Today we went with John & Arlene to visit the area. There is a Benedictine Monastery here that we did not see last year when we were in the area, so it was our first stop. Holy Trinity Monastery has been here since 1974. They have a bakery that they sell bread and cinnamon rolls to the public. Erected on the grounds is a 70 foot Celtic cross. It commemorates the Irish Famine of 1846-1850. The face of the medal of St. Benedict at the junction of the arms of the cross makes it both Celtic and Benedictine. We drove around the Monastery...
