Feb 28, 2020 - Take Me Out To The Ballgame!

After a fun four days in Indio we decided to head towards Phoenix for baseball spring training. We usually book our sites months in advance so finding a spot was quite the challenge! We finally found a spot in Apache Junction at the KOA but it was a 20 amp only site. This didn’t bother us a bit because first off, we scored a spot to get to some games for the first time in two years and secondly, we know how to dry camp and conserve water/electricity. This KOA was amazingly clean and well run so it may be an option for the future. Our first...

New Adventures 2020

Feb 9, 2020 - Lost Dutchman State Park (Return) Feb 6 - Feb 9

Back in mid-December 2019 when Sue's brother Ken and his friend Patty visited us while we were camped in Phoenix for the Cleveland Browns/Arizona Cardinals football game, they invited us to join them at an upcoming LoWs gathering being held in Lost Dutchman State Park in February 2020. At that time we had not yet been to Lost Dutchman although we were headed that way with previous reservations right after the Browns game that week. It sounded like fun so we again made reservations for the dates in February to join them. The LoWs group...

Jan 21, 2020 - Apache Junction/Mesa, AZ

One of the highlights of our trip was arriving in Apache Junction for several days. Our grandson, Brent Spencer, is going to college in Mesa at Benedictine University where he is playing golf. We were able to see him for four days and provide some home cooking for him plus a great visit. While here, we also got to visit with long time friend, Ruth Parker, and our RV friends, Ron & Jackie Athey. Other than the day we arrived, we had very nice weather and were able to enjoy sitting outside. Hard to say goodbye to Brent, but so happy to see...

Winter 2020

Dec 20, 2019 - Lost Dutchman State Park Dec 16 - Dec 20

We really enjoyed camping at the Lost Dutchman State Park located at the edge of the Superstition Mountains near Apache Junction, AZ. We had a nice campsite tucked between two huge saguaro cacti. Sunset glow on the face of the mountain was beautiful as well the nightly sunsets. We did a hike up the foothills to the mountain face which seemed longer than was listed on the parks info sheet. (This should have given us a clue of things to come) One day we did go over to a nearby tourist place, the Goldfield Ghost Town. We were disappointed. It...

Sep 25, 2018 - Our Destation AJ

Tue Sept 25 We pulled out of Dream-Catcher RV park in Deming at 8:30 this morning, not before Sandi takes a few pictures ( well maybe more than a few) of the sunrise. Easy trip today west on I-10 then north on AZ 191 to Stafford, then on to Globe and down the mountain to the valley and Apache Junction. Another issue with the leveling jacks again today. Finally got them quieted down an on to Denali. Overall, today was an uneventful trip. But, the scenery down off the mountain was pretty amazing. It’s a bit warm here, but we expected to find...

Apr 24, 2018 - Museum and Apacheland

On Tuesday afternoon, we went to the nearby Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum which is just down the road about a mile from Lost Dutchman State Park at the base of the Superstition Mountains. The museum contains lots of info and artifacts about native Indians, wildlife, ranches and, of course, the Lost Dutchman himself - Jacob Waltz. It is a small museum, but very well done with nice documented artifacts and displays. There is also a section of the museum that houses original paintings by Ted DeGrazia. At the end of the...

2018 Life in our RV

Apr 24, 2018 - Lost Dutchman hikes

I hadn't planned on posting again from Lost Dutchman State Park, but wouldn't you know it - Murphy's Law struck again. Long story somewhat short - the RV Tech came back out to install the slide seals on Sunday and said that the replacement seals were different than what was on the RV. This was after he removed one of the bedroom seals, so he had to re-install the one that came with the RV. Since this was Sunday, there was nobody to contact at the manufacturer, so he left. He and Steve both sent emails to the manufacturer (who has sent three...

2018 Life in our RV

Apr 21, 2018 - Apache Junction

We enjoyed our extended stay at Voyager RV Park in Tucson so much that we decided to come back and stay for a month after we leave Quartzsite next January. In the short time that we were at Voyager, we learned about so many things to do in the area – such as all kinds of museums, mine tours, cool hikes, restaurants, vibrant downtown area, etc. Plus, we met several folks that stay there every winter, and there are tons of activities onsite, such as craft shows (I’m in!), classes, games, dances and a lot more. We reserved a premium pull...

2018 Life in our RV

Mar 14, 2018 - Lost Dutchmen RV Park

The moment we all dread has arrived. It's time to start our homeward trek after a fun and enjoyable winter in the southwest. Met many old friends, had lots of laughs, saw some good racing, lots of pool time, acquired a glowing tan from all the sunshine and lastly had to say good byes to our friends as it's unlikely we'll be visiting the area any time soon. We've seen the weather is likely to be a bit cooler in the days ahead but we're Canadian eh. It's been a fun trip, enjoyed writing the blog and hearing from some at the same time. Our...

Mar 8, 2018 - Heading west - last night

Our time is up. There are things we would have liked to do here but that flu really shut us down. Hoped to visit with Rick & Sherry but with an early departure and this flu it was not in the cards. Heading west to Quartzsite today then towards Bakersfield over the weekend. It is certainly not hard to leave this place, there are water issues here. You either have it or you dont!! Yesterday was no exception, go to the showers and find there is NO water again. It is no fun taking a shower when the water suddenly stops...yeah!! Or the times...

Mar 7, 2018 - Lost Dutchmen RV Park

Back in the big city prepping for race weekend in Avondale. We had a very nice ride from Vegas, with our requisite stop in Wickieup for a Chicago dog, has been a mainstay in all transits from Phx to Vegas and back since we started these trips. Weather has improved immensely here in Phx such that we are even using air in the afternoon. Downside has been that i took Randi to an urgent care centre Monday to discover she had pneumonia, so a regimen of pills and other apothecary goodies were prescribed and she is on the mend, much better than...

Mar 1, 2018 - Where did the time go? updated severe weather pics

Where did the time go? We are now in the wind down portion of this journey. Just recently I was looking at our travel insurance card and noticed that the return date was one week earlier than I remembered. Good thing I looked at that which means our departure March 9th is coming fast. We have both come down with a nasty flu and that has taken over a week away from us in painful coughing & sneezing , a lack of sleep, then catching up on that sleep anytime during the day. There were days Marion stayed in bed most of the day followed by me...
