Jul 14, 2009 - Montana Creek - Fishing

Vicki decided to sleep in this morning so I spent a few hours fishing and caught a few nice Salmon of which I kept one 18” Pink Salmon. Pinks are not considered one of the better eating Salmon but if cleaned soon after catching and eaten within a day they are good. So I cleaned it as soon as I got back to camp (Vicki was still sleeping) and put it in the refrig to be fixed for dinner. I took Vicki fishing after she got herself out of bed and had her coffee. We caught a few salmon and a Rainbow before calling it quits. We had caught Kings...

Jul 13, 2009 - Montana Creek - Float trip

Woke up to another beautiful morning, with clear skies and mild temps. We decided to do a 4 hour float trip on the Chulitna River starting at 1 PM today. After a nice Mexican egg breakfast we took a walk along the river to spot some King Salmon. There are many salmon in the river and are really neat to watch there movements as they make their way upstream to end their life cycle. It is amazing at what they have to endure to continue their existence. We met the Float Guides at Telkeetna and they drove us about an hour to the put in site for...

From that point I waded upstream fishing and fishing and fighting the current for the next half mile. I did not see a fish until I ran into another person doing the same as I – fishing upstream. We exchange greetings and talked about the conditions. He was from Norway and was trying to catch some trout and salmon. He told me that just above us was a hole where numerous King...

Jul 11, 2009 - Drive to Montana Creek - Telkeetna Moose Dropping Festival

The weather for our drive down the Parks Highway was partly cloudy but warm with temps in the 80s. There were periods of smoke/haze from the fires in the interior of Alaska but the views of Denali Park were great. We stopped at Denali to get some information on how the transportation system worked in the park which is by Park Busses and commercial Sightseeing Busses. We have reservations for 7/16 – 7/20 staying at the Teklanika CG which is furthest into the Park and hardest to get a reservation. It turns out that all campers at the...
