Jun 19, 2013 - Travel Day

I woke up at 5:30 cold so got up and made coffee which was the old fashion boil on top of the stove kind, Buddy turned on the furnace, once it warmed up we decided to go ahead shower and get on the road, which we did around 7:20 and it was 54 degrees, we only have about 50 miles to go on this rocky dirt road, we don’t regret doing this road but don’t think we’ll do another long one like that again, kind of made us glad we decided against doing the over 800 miles round trip to Prudhoe Bay which is gravel also. In case you forget we are...

Jun 1, 2011 - Houston (Alaska)

Day17 Miles: 293 Total: 4762 Campground: Big Lake South SRS, Houston, AK Today we moved closer to Denali. We left Valdez under foggy skies with drizzle. As we crossed Thompson Pass visibility dropped to almost zero in the fog. The drive along the Glenn Highway toward Palmer, AK was uneventful and there were no animal sightings. We stopped for lunch and fuel in Palmer before continuing to Wasila for a stop at Gelato Kordino which we discovered last year. Anne asked about Sarah Palin’s house and we were given directions to a spot where you...

Jul 15, 2010 - Houston, AK

We stayed two nights in Houston to catch up on our laundry and cleaning the coach after dry camping the whole time in Talkeetna. I can't find the pictures I took while we were here, if I do find them I'll be sure to add them to this entry (sorry). Nothing much to tell, just that we went out to eat Chinese and scouted around Wasilla. Our next stop...

Jul 7, 2006 - Houston Alaska

Houston, Alaska Houston, we have landed, and land it was, wet land but a place to stay is all we wanted. It was a very wet, rainy, miserable day and we were just happy to be somewhere that we could park and just spend sometime out of the rain doing our laundry. Many more of the laundry stops and I could have paid for a small washer and dryer installed in the motorhome. And we still have more vacation to go! Houston is a very small town 60 miles north of Anchorage, Alaska. But it like most of the small towns we have come across the people...
