Jul 25, 2017 - Gates of the Arctic and Kobuk Valley

No internet last couple of days. Went to Gates of the Arctic and learned that there are trees on the tundra--the ARCTIC tundra. Spruce and birch and willow. Open spaces aren't grassy but very spongy like moss. LOTS of rivers here--we floated down one. Kobuk Valley -- visited by less than 2000 per year had sand dunes where we landed our plane. On to the biggest park next--Wrangell-St Elias--13 million acres.

Jun 30, 2010 - Arctic Circle & Atigun Pass

Jim and I decided since we would be leaving River View Campground on June 30 we would take a ride on the Dalton Hwy. to Atigun Pass. For you that don't know it is 244 miles one way on a road that is more dirt than paved. It goes to the Arctic Circle then to Cold Foot, up past Wiseman to the top of the Brooks Mountain Range, which is "ATIGUN PASS".
