I flew in a Twin Engine Navajo Chieftain plane to Fort Yukon. It is about 145 miles north of Fairbanks. We crossed the ARTIC CIRCLE on the way. Fort Yukon was founded in 1847 as a trading post for the Hudson Bay Trading Co. The population is about 600. It is home of the Athabascan Indians. It is a very poor town. Winter lows of -86 degrees is common with weeks of below -60 degrees. In the pictures we flew over the White Mountains, over the Alaskan Pipeline. We saw the Yukon lowlands. We saw the mighty Yukon river that flows to the Pacific....
