Jul 18, 2011 - Anchorage

We attempted to get a rental car today, but no luck, seems like they are booked up for the summer. We drove the RV to the Alaska Native Heritage Center and toured it. They have inside and outside displays depicting their life and culture, it was a good presentation and displays. There was also a story telling and dance performance inside that reminded me of our "OA Days and dancing in Nauvoo" Steve, Greg and Jamie! We then went downtown and tried to find a parking spot for the RV within walking distance for the old-woman, but alas we...

Jul 17, 2011 - Anchorage

Had breakfast at the resort before we left for Anchorage. Stopped at Wally-world in south Anchorage for me to fill my prescription, then stopped at the PX/Commissary on Ft. Richardson for some supplies before heading to "Black Spruce RV Park" on post. I made bacon wrapped top round steaks and baked potatoes for supper, then we watched a movie and called it a night, even though the sun shines all night now. NO wifi at the campground so the journal will have to wait.

Sep 7, 2010 - Day 54/55 - Fort Richardson, AK

We spent a very quite Labor Day at the campground. It was rainy most of the day. Tues, 7 Sep, was my appointment with Orthopedics. Had the staples removed from the surgery and received a size smaller boot for my foot. They had put me in an XL boot in Fairbanks due to the amount of swelling. Since the swelling has gone down, the XL boot was too loose on my foot. I am still weight bearing restricted until the 6 wks are up and I can get an Ortho to authorize removal of the boot and direct physical exercise. We're still waiting for word that...

Sep 5, 2010 - Day 52/53 - Fort Richaradson, AK

Our excursion yesterday was to the BX and Commissary. Since it was raining both yesterday and today, we did not do anything in particular. Doesn't bode well to try to use either a wheelchair or a walker when it is raining. The weather is supposed to be better tomorrow.

Sep 3, 2010 - Day 51 - Trapper Creek, AK to Fort Richardson, AK

Today, we continued our drive toward Anchorage, passing through Willow, Houston, and Wasilla before arriving at Fort Richardson. We are staying at the Black Spruce Travel Camp on Fort Richardson. The drive was very nice and only about 2 and a half hours. Along the way there was about 12 miles of construction, with cones everywhere along with signs telling us not to pass. We passed a small coffee house but did not get the sign in the picture. There are quite a few of these coffee houses around the state. The Gorilla is for Gorilla Fireworks...

Jun 15, 2010 - To Anchorage

We hated to leave Kenny Lake but today it is time to get off to Anchorage. We travelled back up AK highway 4 to AK highway 1 and headed southwest toward the cities of Palmer and Anchorage. Dick turned off the road to take a side trup to Lake Louise. This is Alaskan Lake Louise and is at 20 mile trip to the end of a narrow two lane road that we discovered has lots of frost heaves and other significant bumps along the way. He took the road just because we could and it was an exhilarating one hour ride! We also got a good view of a distant...
