Jun 22, 2010 - June 22nd, Delta Junction, Alaska
We traveled 176 miles today. We gassed up and left Chicken at 9 o'clock. The road was still dirt and muddy for several miles. It soon became paved and gravel sections. We did see an eagle but we weren't able to get a picture though. The RV was quite dirty from the muddy dirt road, so we stopped and washed it in Tok. We also picked up groceries there. We drove on to the camp we are spending the night about 10 miles short of Delta Junction. Today we didn't run the heater in the RV much for a change. It is still sweatshirt weather though. We...

Jun 21, 2010 - End Of The Alaska Highway
Yesterday (June 20) was a non-travel day. We were staying in Sourdough RV Park, the first campground built in Tok. They have a pancake breakfast which is why Sandy picked it, but we found out it cost $12 a person! We felt that was overly expensive, so we fixed a breakfast of cocoa and toast in our RV. It rained most of the day yesterday, so we mostly just relaxed in our RV, although Jeff did go out to fuel the truck and pick up a few supplies. We also went back to Fast Eddy's Restaurant for supper (Halibut this time). Today was to be a...

Jun 16, 2010 - Delta Junction, AK
Campground: Smith's Green Acres RV Park Before we left Tok, we took the rig down to the gas station where Richard had filled up the truck yesterday and hosed it down. At least you can see the colors again. The road was relatively smooth to Delta Junction and there is still a decided lack of critters. The day was sunny and bright and it actually got somewhat warm. Murray and Shelle and we stopped at the Delta Meat and Sausage Co. where we sampled enough to serve for lunch and bought some buffalo sausage and breakfast ham. We planned to...

Jun 16, 2010 - Delta Junction, Alaska
Today I decided to wash the truck and trailer as we left. Susan went into the office and paid the $15 for the wash (do it yourself). I pulled up behind somebody already in progress. We waited for one hour while this guy worked in slow motion. Susan asked him if he was going to be much longer and he said he was going to take lots more time as he wanted to do it all again. We got a refund and left. On the drive we saw some spectacular scenery and we saw a river that still had ice. When we got to the rv park in Delta Junction we paid $14 to...

Jun 15, 2010 - From Rika's Roadhouse
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 From Tok, AK to Rika’s Roadhouse north of Delta Junction – parked for $5 in the parking lot. We went south on the Richardson Highway just to see the mountains. Our bonus was the Alaska Pipeline, army convoys, and the front and back of a very quick moose. We stopped at the Delta Meat and Sausage Co. and bought some meat from this locally owned and operated meat company that uses locally produced meats. We stopped at the Delta Junction Visitor’s Center which was mostly a gift shop with some local information. Lowell...

Jul 22, 2009 - Back to the Alaska Highway
We left Chicken after a good night rest and headed south back towards to Alaska Highway. Five miles south of Chicken the highway became paved and so we bowled along. We passed many areas where there had been forest fires and again plenty of wilderness. The forest fires had taken place in the summer of 2004 which burnt 1.3 million acres. At Tetlin Junction and the town of Tok we rejoined the Alaska Highway and headed west. We got our first view of the Alaska Range and crossed the various rivers such as the Delta River and Tanana River. We...

Jul 4, 2009 - Delta Junction
After staying in Denali for 3 days it was time for me to head towards home. The end of the Alaska Highway is officially located in Delta Junction and I was looking forward to getting a picture to prove I drove the whole highway. I had a lady take my picture, but she had a finger over part of the lens as you will see. They also had a statue of their state bird that has been biting me for days.

Jul 1, 2009 - Clearwater Creek State Park
We woke up to a beautiful, sunny morning so we decided to spend a second day here just to relax, do some fishing and go into Delta Junction to get our Alaskan Highway completion certificate. After going into town to get the certificates and do some gift shopping we returned to camp to do a little more fishing and relaxing. We had a good stay and only wish we could spend more time in places like this.

Jun 30, 2009 - Clearwater Creek State Park
We decided we needed some R&R before heading into Fairbanks and weather is predicted to be delightful so we found a nice State Campground called Clearwater Creek just outside of Delta Junction, AK. The CG is set in some tall Black Pines with large sites and right on the Clearwater Creek. I talked to a couple of fishermen who were walking the park road and asked them how the fishing was. Well it turns out that this Creek is a “World Class” Grayling stream. So I had to check it out and boy did we have fun. Vicki wanted to get caught up on her...

Jun 24, 2009 - Delta Junction
We had such a beautiful drive today, albeit short. Upon leaving Tok we were treated to the sights of the end of the Wrangell Range and the beginnings of the Alaska Range. Along the road we passed the German couple that we met briefly in another campground. They are touring on bikes at the young age of 68 and 72. Wow, what an inspiration. We are now in the Delta region of the Tanana River. It is expansive and gorgeous. As we stop for photos now and then, we came across Lichen on the ground that the Caribou eat. The purple flowers that we...

Jun 20, 2009 - Delta Junction, Alaska
We left Valdez and head north towards Fairbanks. Along the way we stopped in Delta Junction which is the official end of the Alaskan Highway. The only thing in Delta Junction is the visitor center and the sign denoting the end of the highway, 1422 miles from the start in Dawson Creek. After taking pictures we headed for Rika's roadhouse, Rika's was a stop over point along the gold rush trail from Valdez to Fairbanks. Today it is a historical park that also allows over night dry camping so we spent the night in the parking lot. Next stop...

Jun 14, 2009 - Alaska Pipeline, Colored Mountains, Delta Junction
Sunday, June 14, 2009 Rika's Roadhouse Parking Lot, Delta Junction, Alaska Alaska Pipeline, Colored Mountains, Delta Junction We got up around 9:00 this morning and started moving. Check-out time was 11:00 so we got breakfast and got on the road after getting showers and one more load of laundry done before Tom took us off full hook-ups. Today was going to be a fairly long drive but we had stopped to see most of the things that were of interest on the way down so the plan was pretty much just to drive straight through until we got up past...
