May 29, 2019 - Icy Strait Point Alaska

This is our last stop in Alaska. Icy Strait Point is very small and depends heavily on tourism. The port area is small and the town is even smaller. Kris was supposed to go stream fishing but that was cancelled. So, she choose advanced kayaking. She saw a whale and a grizzly on shore. I headed to Alaska's wildest kitchen where I sampled things likes salmon dip and halibut Italian sausage, learned how to filet a 4 foot Halibut then grilled salmon and halibut over a wood fire. After lunch, I wandered around the shoreline soaking up the last...

May 29, 2019 - Last day in Alaska

We were on board the ship all day heading to Victoria, British Columbia. Kris and I explored Victoria on the 30th. We went the Royal British Museum and toured the Parliament Building. We topped off the day with a delicious meal of mussels and wine at an outdoor café. We'll be in Seattle in the morning. The week went by too fast. Alaska was spectacular. We are so glad we had chance to see that beautiful state.

May 28, 2019 - Juneau, Alaska Tongass and Mendenhall

In Juneau, we had our most exciting excursion. Up at 7 and out hiking in the Tongass National Forest by 8:30. Tongass is a rainforest and everything was lush and green. As we walked along, we came across markers that show where the glacier had been over the past century. It was interesting to see how much it had melted. When we got to the glacier, it was overcast and foggy but it still was thrilling to see a real live glacier

May 28, 2019 - Juneau, Whale Watching

From the Mendenhall Glacier, we hopped on a small boat to go whale watching. The captain knew all the good spots. As we saw the whales, we could identify them using the area's official whale yearbook. It was pretty spectacular to see these giant creatures. Snapped a few shots of eagles and harbor seals, too.

May 27, 2019 - Ketchikan, Alaska

Our first stop was Ketchikan. It was a beautiful fishing village. We walked up to Creek St. During the gold rush days, Creek St. was the red light district. Most of the building are shops now, except for Dolly's House. It has been turned into a museum which explained the life of a "sporting woman" and life on the Alaskan frontier. After Dolly's, we toured the Totem Heritage Museum. The museum was established to preserve 19th century totem from uninhabited Tlingit villages. It had some traditional artwork and clothing. Next, we are going to...

Nov 9, 2014 - Getting Ready to Leave - Countdown 6 days til take off

Today I searched for a travel journal that would chronicle our trip including pictures and allow our family and close friends to see where we are and what we are doing if they wanted to do so. I decided on the MyTrip Journal and hope it will work out okay for everyone to access. I'll try and add a photo and a little summary each day. We are almost finished packing and instead of four suittcases, two backpacks, two totes (like we packed for our Panama trip last year) we are going with one suitcase each and one backpack. It should be a lot...
