Apr 5, 2011 - Day 7, Wilmer, Alabama

Oh, what a storm we had last night. Yesterday Glenna and I jumped in the Jeep and headed east to the town of Semmes. We checked out the Walmart, did our grocery shopping at a Winn Dixie and then went to Meggie B’s, Tammy Miller’s gift shop.It has an eclectic mixture of stock including flip flops, kitchen accessories, jewelry, purses and all kinds of neat nic nacs. We were invited to go to a ball game last night. Nine year old Grant Miller had a game in Semmes, about 7 miles east of the Miller campground. The wind was whipping up and we had...

Apr 3, 2011 - Hush Puppies and Catfish

Barry, Beverly, Grant, and Eli took Glenna and I out for catfish. Glenna and I enjoyed the catfish, and I was also able to enjoy the hush puppies. The restaurant, which is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday was extremely busy, There was at least a 30 minute wait for a table. We had a wonderful visit with Barry and his family. This morning Barry’s mom and dad picked us up and took us to their church. They are all members of the Wilmer Baptist Church. It has about 800 members and large Sundays schools for all ages. After church Mr. and...

Apr 2, 2011 - Day 4 - Wilmer

Another beautiful day in paradise. This morning we spent the morning touring some of the Miller property. We met Barry’s wife Beverly and his two boys, Grant and Eli. They have multiple ponds and a river that runs through their property. All of the pictures today are of their property. This afternoon we are relaxing at the trailer. I have been alternating between the Blue Jay game and the truck race. It’s nice to see the Jays get off to a good start. Glenna and I are looking forward to this evening. We have been invited by the Miller...

Apr 1, 2011 - Day 3 - Wilmer, Alabama

Glenna and I have been relaxing in Wilmer, Alabama waiting for the truck to get repaired. I never had any problems with the motor in this truck. I never had to add oil between oil changes, never ran hot or anything else right up until the time of our most recent incident. I got word from Ford this afternoon that I had a catastrophic engine failure. It is not repairable. Ford is shipping out a new motor which should arrive on Monday. To replace a motor in a new Ford truck, they completely remove the cab from the chassis and then take the...

Mar 31, 2011 - Day 2 - Wilmer, Alabama

It’s cool and overcast in Wilmer, Alabama this morning. The logging trucks moved out of here at 5 AM. I didn’t get a very good nights sleep, strange place and thinking about the truck made for a restless night. There appear to be about six employees working here at the nursery. They wholesale their plants, so there is no general public wandering around, just Glenna and I. I started the generator this morning so I could run the coffee maker, the toaster, and the microwave. I went outside to find an electrician wiring in a 50 amp RV plug into...

Mar 30, 2011 - No Truck, No Travel!

The day started well. It was a bright sunny morning as we travelled east to Jackson, Mississippi. From there we travelled south east toward Mobile, Alabama. Within the first mile in Alabama our problems started. The truck started to run hot and lose power. We were driving on a 2 lane road that had no shoulder to pull over on. Luckily we were approaching an intersection and were able to pull off on a side road. No shoulders on this road either, so there we were stopped on the road. Glenna phoned 911 and notified the police that our truck had...
