Mar 28, 2020 - Lake Lurleen State Park, Alabama

2020-03-28. Sweet Home Alabama - Or...no cell, Internet, satellite! Hey, y'all! That's the greeting from all of the fellow campers at Lake Lurleen State Park outside of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. And, I should probably be saying in the same breath, "Roll, Tide" in homage to the University of Alabama whose main campus is located here. Mississippi's state parks are open and only the yellow tape preventing access to the beaches and playgrounds reflects the shadow of the Corona Virus. Otherwise, the office is open with friendly workers, and the...

Sep 23, 2019 - Driving through Alabama

Left the Heritage Rv Park, Augusta, Georgia around 9:30. Headed down Hwy 20 and the roads were good. Driving the perimetre of Atlanta at lunch time was pretty crazy. At one time there were 5 lanes of traffic each way, with major traffic, especially big trucks. At one time I counted 11 trucks either coming towards us or in front of us!! Good thing Alvin stays pretty calm and doesn't get all stressed!! I'm just glad I'm the navigator and not the driver!!! All in all it was a good driving day, even though it was pretty warm. Temp got up to...

Apr 15, 2017 - Tuscaloosa, AL - Sunset RV Park - East

Our trip from Montgomery to Tuscaloosa, AL was an easy 103 miles that took almost three hours that included giving the Mothership a drink just before we got to the RV Park. It was a pleasant drive on mostly two lane roads of US 82 that got increasingly hilly as we neared Tuscaloosa. We are staying at the Sunset RV Park - East. Sunset has three parks: the one we are in; Sunset RV Park - West; and Sunset Park - Avalon. West is their main parks that is mostly occupied by permanents though there are three or four sites left (mostly in the...

Sep 22, 2016 - Roll Tide - Almost home

We departed the hotel very early because we knew the traffic through Dallas was going to be a nightmare. It was. Bumper to bumper for about 1 hour - I don't know how people do this every day. We finally got through it and the rest of the trip was uneventful. We drove the rest of the way through Texas, Lousiana, Mississippi, and finally Alabama. We ended up in Tuscaloosa - home of the University of Alabama - Crimson Tide territory I believe. I actually liked Lousiana and Mississippi - it reminded me of NC at times. The people were very...

BEGINNING MILEAGE 41372 Got on the road around 8:45 this morning traveling still on Hwy 19 then Hwy 82 traveling thru Georgia and into Alabama where the time changed and we lost an hour, we stopped for lunch in Union Springs at Hill Top Café where we had stopped before on a previous trip, it wasn’t so good this time so off the list it goes. Started looking for a campground around 4:00 and wasn’t having much luck we even drove off the road about 10 miles for one that showed up on the GPS, no luck with that another reason I should have...

Nov 14, 2011 - Tuscaloosa Alabama

On verra demain. On a un autre arrêt avant d’arriver à la Nouvelle Orléans, soit à Hattiesburg Mississippi. Nous nous limitons à 3 ou 4 heures...

Sweet Home Alabama!

Sep 19, 2011 - Football Crazy.

Hi Y'all, OK so I already broke the plan to update every Wednesday. You can send me angry emails if you like... I have had another busy busy week and weekend. We went to a pep-rally on Friday!! So much fun! Lots of screaming teenagers, pretty much like being at home. We also got a little tour of the high school as someone we have made friends with is a teacher there. We went to a high school football game after that, and I can safely say I now understand the rules...and I LOVE AMERICAN FOOTBALL. I was getting so into it, pretty much looked...

Sweet Home Alabama

Sep 6, 2011 - Thier Back

Hi Everyone, Well as you remember, our last blog left you with the two professional drinkers taking on the clubs and bars of Bourbon Street and it didn't quite work out the way it was pictured when they started. At around 12am they stumbled back into the room with Greg heavily intoxicated and any overly excited. it seems they had drunk themselves silly and Greg had decided to throw up on as much of the Bourbon Street sidewalk as humanly possible. So whilst Greg slipped away to the bathroom to continue his technicolour adventure, Andy was...
