Feb 3, 2015 - Repost From 2/3/2015: Deja Vu All Over Again

We've had an interesting past few weeks. First it was back to Hendersonville, NC for my mother's memorial service on the 24th of January. We left Ft Lauderdale and stopped by Michele and Gwen's place in Alpharetta, GA where we spent the night and left the motorhome. We also got to meet our beautiful great grandson while we were there! Then we drove to Hendersonville and checked in to the Hampton Inn, where most of the family was staying for the weekend. The service was wonderful- very moving, and provided closure for us all. Mom had it...

Dec 15, 2014 - Landing on a rainbow

Mon Dec 15 Today we traveled the balance of the distance (225 miles) to our destination in Summerdale, AL. Yesterday and today we traveled secondary roads with the exception of a short section of I-65. A few were on the narrow side but all were good. This part of western Alabama has rolling hills. The northern part of today’s journey took us through cattle and catfish country. There were dozens of farms with scores of catfish ponds. Interspersed throughout the route were large scale logging and sawmill operations. Lots of that southern...

Apr 17, 2014 - Travel Highlights

One of the things about life on wheels is that if you don’t like a place, you can just pack up and leave. We had expected to stay at the Escapees Rainbow Park in Summerdale, Alabama through the Easter weekend but we didn’t really care for the area. The campground itself was nice. It was a park-like setting in a rural area and was located about 20 miles from the beaches. Lots of people from northeastern U.S. and Canada come here to flee the cold winters. It is a busy area with lots of restaurants and shopping but not much more. As usual we...

Dec 21, 2013 - Summerdale, AL

Sat, 21 Dec: Welcome to winter, in the south... Today we finally bade adieu to Florida. We arrived on 16 Oct and stayed two plus months. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope to return. Just don't know when. We departed the Sunset Isle RV Park at 0820 and Bob pointed Carpe's snout west along US 98. Our GPS wanted us to head north to Interstate 10, but we gagged her incessant nudging and stayed on coastal route. Hugging the Gulf shore is forty miles shorter, but that is at the price of many, many built up areas and innumerable stop...

May 6, 2013 - Preparations have begun...

Take off day is May 15...we are getting excited like we always get when taking off for a new adventure. We had the RV tires rotated and brakes adjusted last week and now it is time to get serious about prepping for the summer. Fred does most of the hard work getting ready for our long trips. Although I help pack, he does almost everything else: de- winterizing, cleaning out the water tanks, cleaning the outside of the RV, waxing the front of the RV, making sure everything on and in the rig is in good shape, etc. etc. etc. Looking forward to...

First, I want to wish my new granddaughter, Alexia, a big Happy Birthday. She is 2 years old today. Wish we were there to celebrate your birthday with you! On our way out of Biloxi we found regular gas for $2.96 a gallon and diesel for $3.58 a gallon. Yahoo! It has been a long time since we found these kind of prices. We have spent the last 4 days at the Rainbow Plantation an Escapee Park in Summerdale, AL. We visited here several years ago when the park was nearly deserted. This time folks were coming in for the winter. Happy Hour always...
