Apr 21, 2016 - Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, Alabama

2016-04-21.Gulf State Park, Orange Beach, AL This is an unbelievable state park near Gulf Shores, Alabama. There are more than 400 sites and all are huge, paved and have full hook ups with 50 AMP service which we prefer; especially in warm weather. The sites have plenty of space between them and we would not have any difficulty fitting in any of the sites; really incredible for a state park. Not only is the campground lovely, bordering a large lake, but it is across the street from the sugary white beaches of Alabama. The state park...

Dec 6, 2014 - Alabama

Saturday, December 6, 2014 At about 4 PM Friday we arrive in Orange Beach Alabama and pulled in to Terry Cove RV resort. It is a beautiful Motor Home only park where all of the spaces are privately owned. Our friends Tim and Linda arranged for us to stay a week for a good price. At dusk we sat around a campfire with our friends and another couple Bob and Georgia from Shawano, Wisconsin. Later that evening our friends took us down to the Tiki Hut for a small dinner and to listen to a talented couple singing. Saturday we visited the Camping...

Nov 28, 2012 - Day 17 - Port St. Joe, Florida

After a 4 hour drive along the Gulf we arrived in Port St. Joe, Florida. We were a little apprehensive because no one had ever heard of Port St. Joe and the town has only about 3500 people. We found Port Inn right away as it is right on Hwy 98 across from the gulf. Our room has it's own porch and is very nice. The Port Inn is a very nice inn in a quaint little town - I would call it a boutique town. I took a walk downtown and there are alot of cute shops but alot of empty ones too. I walked down to the beach but could only walk out on a...

Nov 27, 2012 - Days 15 & 16 - Orange Beach, Alabama

We drove on Hwy 90 with the Gulf on our right and beautiful homes on our right - I didn't know which way to look! After checking in at the Hilton Garden Inn, I took a walk on the beach and we went to Tacky Jack's for dinner. We returned to the hotel & I did laundry. Rain was predicted for all day Tuesday, but we drove west on a little strip of land towards a ferry that would take us to Dauphin Island. When we arrived we found we had about a 45 minute wait for the next ferry. We got in line since there was no where else to go and luckily an...

Jul 21, 2012 - Bike Ride to Orange Beach

Rode the bike to Orange Beach to see Bryan. Hit a rain storm from Biloxi to the split in Mobile. 45 minutes of rain/48 miles, the worst part was trying to see. I'll have to try some rain-X next time. Didn't get to see Bryan, so I rode on through to Destin. Riding along the beach was breath taking. On the way back the sun was setting as I rode down Pensacola Beach. I stopped off at Peg Leg Pete's to eat and had a couple Shipwrecks. Stayed at a hotel in Pensacola for the night. Sunday morning my phone died and my charger came to pieces. I...

Feb 25, 2011 - Orange Beach Car Show

The weather has been wonderful recently so we’ve ridden the bike around quite a bit. One day we rode about 145 miles east through some FL back roads, and then north back into AL. We saw two really large osprey nests, one with one bird in the nest, and the other with a pair; many freshly plowed fields ready for planting, and many large fields covered in beautiful lavender colored flowers, but we couldn’t identify whether they were crops or volunteer wildflowers. I need to research them but haven’t had time yet. Another time we rode over to...

Jan 17, 2010 - A Weekend of Fun with Great Friends

Thursday we left the beach to drive to Foley – we went first to see the Foley Historical Museum, which had lots of old artifacts about 19th and early 20th century life in the town; my favorite was seeing an old Iron Rite Mangle brand rotary iron. The one on display was not just like the one I used to have, which was a foldable Mangle that my mom gave me, but it sure brought back memories! I used to use it all the time when we lived on the farm. Fred’s favorite parts of the museum were the Kenny Stabler items; he is a pro football player who...
