Oct 23, 2019 - Cruising Auburn

Today was a day for running around the Opelika/Auburn area. A quick trip out to one of the Robert Trent Jones golf courses, Grand National. Dan and I played there several years ago when I was a traveling man. We spent time driving around the historic downtown section of Opelika and then time driving through Auburn University. We went by Jordan-Hare Stadium, their baseball facility as well as their new basketball facility. We saw soccer facilities and some of the practice facilities. When we returned to the Bus we took Ziva on a walk up to...

Oct 22, 2019 - On to Alabama and back to the central time zone

Today was a travel day but not a hard one. The first reason is that it was only 160 miles. The second was we had nothing out for a one night stay. The final reason is that we gained an hour when we crossed over into Alabama. All this said, we did not get up until about 8:00 and moved around slowly. We were away just after 11:00 a.m. EDT. We drove on state highways and less than major US highways and a quick 16 miles on an Interstate. We came through Macon and Columbus and crossed over headed for Opelika. We are in the Spring Villa Park. It...

May 8, 2012 - Lakeside RV Park in Opelika, AL

5/7 & 8/12 Opelika, AL We stopped at Lakeside RV Park in Opelika, AL for two nights to check out this area. There was nothing particularly special about this stop, but it gave us a break to prepare for our next few stops. Auburn University is only about 8 miles from Opelika.

Feb 8, 2011 - Alabama

Yesterday we crossed the Savannah River to enter Georgia. The river was wide and gentle, and, although it may get turbulent at times, it sure seemed sleepy and peaceful on this February day. Last night we camped in a remote campground in Warrenton, Georgia. It was farther away from the highway than we had anticipated, and we were very grateful for our navigation system. This was a very different environment from where we have been staying so far. There were no attendants or typical camping facilities at this campground, and everything was...

Dec 6, 2010 - Maxwell AFB - Opelika

While we are experiencing this nice weather, we decided we should take advantage of it and head to see some of the places we have on our ever-growing list of places to see and explore while we are here at Maxwell-Gunter AFB. The temps are down in the low 30s in the morning, but it’s nice and sunny outside and that certainly helps raise the temps to the 50s and 60s and makes it much nicer to walk around in. We decided today we would drive to the Lee County seat of Opelika (pronounced Opa-LYE-kuh) to see another covered bridge and drive...

Oct 26, 2010 - Westward Ho!!

It rained throughout the night last night. We know because for the another night we didn't sleep well or much; making two out of three bad nights. Suzy reported the same phenomenon. Was there something wrong with all of us or was there some negative energy around the campsite that impacted us? We will be in bed early tonight to find out. We are camped in Opelika AL at the Lakeside RV Park. Neither of us has seen anything like a lake, but that's what it is called. We had an easy trip. We traveled 441 to 129 to 80/280. We discovered this...

Living Our Dream

Dec 4, 2007 - Okefenokee Swamp and on to Alabama

December 3-4, Okefenokee and on to Alabama. St. Marys GA may have been our greatest distance from home on this trip. I let the batteries die in the GPS and am too lazy to re-calibrate it, so don't have an exact mileage, but we headed back west and a little northward after we left St Marys, so I think we are closer to home. First stop was Okefenokee National Wildlife refuge, which encompasses most of the Okefenokee Swamp. I suspect the only way to really get a feel for the swamp would be a several day canoe trip. We had to make do with a...

May 20, 2006 - 2nd Day - Planned stop to work on engine tuning

May 20, 2006 - Saturday To make a short story out of a long day and night we finished the installation of the wide band O2 sensor and the tuning and were able to continue our journey Saturday night about 11:30 pm. This took longer than expected and put us a good 10 hours behind schedule. Any time you start dealing with computers and electronics the time it takes is not easy to estimate. Donald began driving extra hours to make up the miles needed to arrive in Los Vegas on Tuesday. We spent the night in a Wal-Mart parking lot with several...
