Nov 13, 2011 - wedding/Scott and Denise's/comming home

November 14 Montgomery Alabama. We have been so busy having a great time that I just didn't get down to writing and now we are almost home. I got to help Tricia complete the bridesmaids outfits and some work on the flower girl dresses. She and I stay up Thursday night before the wedding, sewing, visiting and drinking coffee. It was so good to be a part of the preparations including decorating the rehearsal dinner site. The wedding was beautiful. Shayla, the bride, was lovely and so grown up. Of course I shed some tears remembering her as a...

Apr 2, 2011 - Saturday morning in Montgomery, Alabama

April 2, 2011: We spent the night at the Woods RV Park in Montgomery, Alabama. I had some trouble finding the park on my GPS, the address on "Sassafras Circle" was not in the database. I need to get online with Magellan and update my GPS, I'm told that is easy to do, but where am I going to find a grandchild around here to help me do it? The park is neat and clean, and laid-out in a large area that is void of trees and shade. But, it has good cable television with a lot of channels, and good WiFi. My Passport membership wasn't good on the...

Jan 14, 2011 - My Alabamie Mammie

Boy, I just can't seem to get in gear with the camera! Sorry folks, guess I'm waiting for the PALM TREES just to make you jealous! We had an uneventful day on the road, a long day with 490 miles driven. We are TRYING to find some WARM weather and the entire south is BRRRRRR!!!! We stopped just south of Montgomery and stayed in a wonderful little RV park called Sherling Lake Park, in Greenville, AL. If you ever get a chance to stop, this is a great little place to stay. It only cost us $25 but he only accepted cash. Another person who gave...

Dec 19, 2010 - Maxwell AFB - Montgomery

Finally – sunshine! We have had another period of just miserable weather here of late and definitely precluded us from getting out and about and exploring more of the places we had on our list. Lesson learned - when we have the nice days, get out and don’t procrastinate on seeing them later in the stay because you never know what the weather’s going to do! This would be one of those situations; unfortunately! Had planned to get pictures of Jerry’s home town of Selma, around the town, the beginning of the Selma-Montgomery March, Sturdivant...

Nov 28, 2010 - Arrived at Maxwell-Gunter AFB, Montgomery, AL

Greetings from Maxwell-Gunter AFB, Montgomery, AL. We left the Welcome Center rest stop outside of Augusta, GA this a.m. - primary goal was to get through Atlanta at an early hour before the traffic started getting crazy with the Falcons playing in town today. Fortunately, we were past Atlanta by 0930, phew! We stopped at the Alabama Welcome Center at 1030 to pick up some literature of places to see, visit and things to do while here and we also gained an hour as we entered Central Standard Time again - YAHOO. I might be able to stay awake...

Oct 31, 2010 - Happy Halloween!

Another picture-perfect day in southern Alabama. We have been loving it. Today we caught up on our laundry, picked up a few things at the grocery and started packing up for tomorrow's travel day. We are going to Mobile tomorrow and then on Tuesday we will travel to New Orleans. Roger and I were talking today and remembering where we were last Halloween. We were in Cave City, KY, green as can be and full of apprehension about this lifestyle we were embarking upon. Now a year has passed and it has been such a learning experience. We have...

Oct 30, 2010 - Lazy Day in Montgomery

We slept in this morning until 8:00 and then sat in our recliners, leisurely drinking our coffee. I didn't take my shower until almost 11:00 - now that's being lazy! It was another beautiful sunny day and we enjoyed the outdoors, basking in the sun. We didn't do a whole lot today. We took a walk around the RV park and we amused ourselves watching a dog playing with a gigantic tennis ball. For a while we sat outside, playing Sequence and I just have to report that I won all three games. For dinner, we heated up some garlic sausage that we...

Oct 28, 2010 - Montgomery, AL

Today we traveled to my most favorite state, Alabama. We left Tennessee around 8:00 and headed for Montgomery. It was another beautiful sunny day and a very easy travel day. A couple of hours into the drive, we stopped for gas and then went to the Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Around 3:00 we rolled into Capital City RV Park and prepared to spend a few days resting, getting caught up on laundry and chores, and exploring the area. We have been through Montgomery many times but we have never stopped before. This park is very nice. It is gravel...

Cope's Trek

May 10, 2010 - Montgomery Alabama

It was about a 4 hour drive from the capital of Mississippi to the capital of Alabama. The downtown area around the Capitol is going through some major construction so I couldn't find parking to do sightseeing. All they had were 30 minute meters several blocks away so I had to really hurry around and couldn't go inside anywhere. I got a quick glimpse of the Capitol, the First White House of the Confederacy and the Civil Rights Memorial. I also walked by a church a couple blocks from the Capitol where MLK Jr had been the pastor in the late...
