May 4, 2012 - Alabama State Capitol

It's been 5 years since Tom and I visited Montgomery Alabama - what a change! New businesses have opened in what were once empty buildings. The downtown is so very clean - looks like all the buildings have been power washed. I didn't get to the Capitol then so I thought I'd stop and do it today as I work my way to Knoxville via Chattanooga( tomorrow). The legislature meets across the way in the State Office Building so, even though the Governor's office is still in the Capitol, the building acts mostly as a museum now. In 1960 the building...

May 3, 2012 - The Woods Rv Park

Drove 190 miles today in the pouring down rain. Was really glad to get off the road. This campground is very nice for a overnight stay. Large pull though sites and very level. Grass and gravel sites but the ground is real solid. Thank goodness because it has rained about 6 inches in the last day. Will move on tomorrow. Don't plan on driving more than 200 miles a day so it will be Monday before we get back to Cedarmore.

So, there is ALOT to update you on!! So much so, it's gonna have to be in multiple blog posts.. I've been putting off blogging for a long time but a quiet Friday night in procrastinating from doing my essay has lead me to my blog :) So the week before Spring Break I went to Montgomery in Alabama with my friends Lauren, Jane Marie, Kathleen, Sarah, Christine and Devyani to Jane Marie's farm! It was so so so so fun! On the way there we stopped at a massive outdoors store called Bass Pro to look at all the crazy farm, fishing, hunting Alabama...

Sweet Home Alabama!

Jan 3, 2012 - Greenville, Alabama

We decided to move further south yesterday after watching the weather forecast predicting cold weather across much of the east. We drove south on Interstate 65 toward Mobile, Alabama. It was a beautiful bright day, although there was a cold wind. Glenna got a picture of Dudley, resting on her lap. He is totally relaxed and loves traveling with us. We entered into Alabama and got a picture of a rocket that looks ready to blast off at the Welcome Centre. We had hoped to travel south on a smaller road to the west, however a lack of campsites...

Nov 19, 2011 - Back to Maxwell AFB

Red Bay is now in our rear view mirror! We left Ricky's shortly after 9:00 and only stopped once to refuel outside of Birmingham and then proceeded down Interstate 65 till the turn off to Maxwell Air Force Base 218 miles south of Red Bay. We had great traveling weather until we got closer to B'ham and then got just enough sprinkles to mess up the front window - how mean is that after just getting the coach all cleaned up? Oh well, still looks wonderful and the sprinkles just helped get some of the bugs off the front windshield. It's good...

Apr 2, 2011 - Saturday morning in Montgomery, Alabama

April 2, 2011: We spent the night at the Woods RV Park in Montgomery, Alabama. I had some trouble finding the park on my GPS, the address on "Sassafras Circle" was not in the database. I need to get online with Magellan and update my GPS, I'm told that is easy to do, but where am I going to find a grandchild around here to help me do it? The park is neat and clean, and laid-out in a large area that is void of trees and shade. But, it has good cable television with a lot of channels, and good WiFi. My Passport membership wasn't good on the...

Boy, I just can't seem to get in gear with the camera! Sorry folks, guess I'm waiting for the PALM TREES just to make you jealous! We had an uneventful day on the road, a long day with 490 miles driven. We are TRYING to find some WARM weather and the entire south is BRRRRRR!!!! We stopped just south of Montgomery and stayed in a wonderful little RV park called Sherling Lake Park, in Greenville, AL. If you ever get a chance to stop, this is a great little place to stay. It only cost us $25 but he only accepted cash. Another person who gave...

Dec 19, 2010 - Maxwell AFB - Montgomery

Finally – sunshine! We have had another period of just miserable weather here of late and definitely precluded us from getting out and about and exploring more of the places we had on our list. Lesson learned - when we have the nice days, get out and don’t procrastinate on seeing them later in the stay because you never know what the weather’s going to do! This would be one of those situations; unfortunately! Had planned to get pictures of Jerry’s home town of Selma, around the town, the beginning of the Selma-Montgomery March, Sturdivant...

Greetings from Maxwell-Gunter AFB, Montgomery, AL. We left the Welcome Center rest stop outside of Augusta, GA this a.m. - primary goal was to get through Atlanta at an early hour before the traffic started getting crazy with the Falcons playing in town today. Fortunately, we were past Atlanta by 0930, phew! We stopped at the Alabama Welcome Center at 1030 to pick up some literature of places to see, visit and things to do while here and we also gained an hour as we entered Central Standard Time again - YAHOO. I might be able to stay awake...
