Mar 20, 2013 - stalling for better weather

We left Foley and drove about 175 miles to Woods Campground in Montgomery. We have been here once before. It is a nice flat campground with large pull thru spots. We are staying here 3 days waiting for it to warm up in Ky. We drove around Montgomery tuesday. We thought there was a nice walking trail at the river downtown but we were wrong or we never found it. Did see some big old beautiful Church's and some big houses. Guess there is going to be snow flurries in northern Alabama and Tennessee Friday so Donald has decided we need to get...

Don't wake me up

Dec 11, 2012 - Slowly we head deeper south

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 The weather stayed pretty grand while we finished our stay on the mountaintop in Huntsville. We hit one more museum that was close by to us, the Burrit House Museum. A kind of eccentric doctor built a straw bale house not too far from the cg in 1938. Actually the straw was just used as insulation between the walls as some do today. Makes for a very thick wall tho. Anyway it was sort of a mansion, it’s big. Unfortunately on the day he moved in an electrical short started the straw on fire and his house burned down...

Nov 5, 2012 - Finally Florida bound!

We were finally able to leave for Florida yesterday. Spent last night dry camped at Red Bay which is still full to overflowing (only dry camping available). We just needed to pick up a few screws to replace ones that fell out of the trim on our living room slide. Tonight we are with full hook ups in Montgomery Alabama (Maxwell AF Base campground). We will fuel up in the morning and head out for Destin! We were originally set to be there October 19th. so this has been a long time coming!

Oct 25, 2012 - F Scott Fitzgerald Museum

We started our day of exploring Montgomery at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Museum. This is a private museum and is located in the home the Fitzgeralds occupied from October 1931 to April 1932, a period of only six months. As detailed on the sign out front while in residence here, Scott worked on his novel Tender Is The Night and Zelda began her only novel Save Me The Waltz. This is a very low-budget museum and as such it disappointed us a little. It does contain much memorabilia including a collection of photographs, correspondence and samples...

Our 2012 Travels

Oct 24, 2012 - Another Travel Day

We got up this morning and saw a Chick-Fil-A within walking distance of our rig and decided to try them for breakfast. Chick-Fil-A is our favorite fast food restaurant but we've never tried their breakfast sandwiches. As we were leaving, there was an elderly well-groomed gentleman in a white shirt and tie sitting in a booth just observing what was going on around him. As we passed him on our way out he asked if everything had been okay and we assured him it had been good. It wasn't until we got outside that we discussed this fellow and I...

Our 2012 Travels

Sep 25, 2012 - Montgomery, Alabama

We are in Montgomery, Alabama because my nephew and niece, Todd and Brooke, and their new baby Mila are here. Todd is in the Air Force and participating in a two month leadership development program. We met them at a Chili's last night and saw Mila for the first time. They live in Omaha so we are too far apart to expect frequent visits. Mila is adorable. She is doing really well and is going to be six months old tomorrow. This afternoon we went to see some of the Civil Rights sights in Montgomery. We went to a museum about the bus boycott...

RV Trip Summer 2012

May 4, 2012 - Alabama State Capitol

It's been 5 years since Tom and I visited Montgomery Alabama - what a change! New businesses have opened in what were once empty buildings. The downtown is so very clean - looks like all the buildings have been power washed. I didn't get to the Capitol then so I thought I'd stop and do it today as I work my way to Knoxville via Chattanooga( tomorrow). The legislature meets across the way in the State Office Building so, even though the Governor's office is still in the Capitol, the building acts mostly as a museum now. In 1960 the building...

May 3, 2012 - The Woods Rv Park

Drove 190 miles today in the pouring down rain. Was really glad to get off the road. This campground is very nice for a overnight stay. Large pull though sites and very level. Grass and gravel sites but the ground is real solid. Thank goodness because it has rained about 6 inches in the last day. Will move on tomorrow. Don't plan on driving more than 200 miles a day so it will be Monday before we get back to Cedarmore.

Don't wake me up

Mar 10, 2012 - Should've been a Cowboy! - Montgomery, Alabama!

So, there is ALOT to update you on!! So much so, it's gonna have to be in multiple blog posts.. I've been putting off blogging for a long time but a quiet Friday night in procrastinating from doing my essay has lead me to my blog :) So the week before Spring Break I went to Montgomery in Alabama with my friends Lauren, Jane Marie, Kathleen, Sarah, Christine and Devyani to Jane Marie's farm! It was so so so so fun! On the way there we stopped at a massive outdoors store called Bass Pro to look at all the crazy farm, fishing, hunting Alabama...

Sweet Home Alabama!

Jan 3, 2012 - Greenville, Alabama

We decided to move further south yesterday after watching the weather forecast predicting cold weather across much of the east. We drove south on Interstate 65 toward Mobile, Alabama. It was a beautiful bright day, although there was a cold wind. Glenna got a picture of Dudley, resting on her lap. He is totally relaxed and loves traveling with us. We entered into Alabama and got a picture of a rocket that looks ready to blast off at the Welcome Centre. We had hoped to travel south on a smaller road to the west, however a lack of campsites...

Nov 19, 2011 - Back to Maxwell AFB

Red Bay is now in our rear view mirror! We left Ricky's shortly after 9:00 and only stopped once to refuel outside of Birmingham and then proceeded down Interstate 65 till the turn off to Maxwell Air Force Base 218 miles south of Red Bay. We had great traveling weather until we got closer to B'ham and then got just enough sprinkles to mess up the front window - how mean is that after just getting the coach all cleaned up? Oh well, still looks wonderful and the sprinkles just helped get some of the bugs off the front windshield. It's good...
