Sep 15, 2019 - Clear Creek cg

We came across Arkansas on I40 through Tennessee and down to Alabama to head home. We stopped for lunch at Nick's bbq outside of Memphis for a good pork bbq sandwich and potato salad. We came on to Clear Creek rec area where we stayed last year. We have a great pull-thru site looking at the lake with the sun setting. Home tomorrow.

Oct 4, 2018 - Clear Creek rec area

Another boring travel day from Arkansas to Alabama. We stopped at Clear Creek campground in the middle of Alabama near nothing. The campground is on the lake which is supposedly one of the clearest in the country. It is very clear and that's often unusual for the south. The CG is very nice and we have a view of part of the lake. Will stop to see Cathy tomorrow and then head home.

Aug 19, 2010 - Thursday, Day 2

Whew....good night's sleep! Feel like a new person. Had no visitors last night - two legged or four-legged. Which was a relief - cause I swear you could hear banjo music! First stop today will be Tupelo MS to see the campground we were aiming for. OMG was it cool - a bird and butterfly paradise. The owner has gone to great pains to make the campground appealing. The Campground @ Barnes Crossing is worth the trip. Luckily for me, it was within a mile of several shops! So we hit the Barnes & Noble there to stock up on a new Atlas (Rick...

May 3, 2010 - the getaway

Our campground in the Athens, GA area was about two day's drive away from home. Unfortunately, bodacious thunderstorms poured 14 inches of rain into the very wide state of Tennessee over the weekend. The interstates through Knoxville where closed in spots and eventually Nashville was closed down entirely. And those thunderstorms were headed our way. The weather media tends to over dramatize unusual weather, but the footage of buildings floating down the interstate past stranded trucks and cars did give us pause. We spent the morning...

Mar 7, 2009 - Spent last night in Sleepy Holler, Alabama

This is an interesting place. We were going to stay in Birmingham, Alabama. Again no campgrounds that we could find in the area of mileage we wanted to drive. Birmingham is an easy town to go through on the interstate, although it's a big City. We got to the RV park, and it was like being in the slums. No office and a few rusty trailers, and a couple of ones that looked like contractors were living in them. No thank you. Very creepy place in a run down bad neighborhood. We got the heck out of Dodge. I thought to my self if I have to drive...

Sep 21, 2007 - Jasper, AL

Dean woke me at 4:38 a.m. to hit the road. He is such a sweetie! We quickly dressed and drove a total of 854 miles, stopping in Jasper, Alabama which is just west of Birmingham. We arrived there around 8:15 p.m. We stopped outside of Tupelo, MS (birthplace of Elvis Aaron Presley) for dinner around 5:30 and drove on as we were not yet thoroughly exhausted at that point. We left Frick's Restaurant and Truck Stop coughing our lungs out. Every single person in the place was chain smoking even though they didn't appear to have two nickels to rub...
