Oct 20, 2015 - Beached

The following day after Stone Mountain we drove to Gulf Shores, AL. RVing on the Gulf Coast is not for everyone. Most sun and sand vacationers prefer the beach condo with the balcony view and stepping right onto the sand. With our new compromise into vacationing with an RV, this sun and sand vacationer enjoyed every moment of the coast. We had booked an RV resort in Gulf Shores, AL that was 3 blocks from the beach, all concrete, sand, and palm trees everywhere. So far, so good. It's as close to a condo as we'll get now that we are RVing...

RVing with the Fam

Mar 19, 2015 - Gulf Shores, AL

I went for a walk on the Gulf Coast beach this morning. The water was like glass, very few people on the beach, seagulls soaring and dolphins playing in the distance. But my walk was cut short when it started to rain. Went back with Dan later in the afternoon and it was beautiful! Had dinner with the Hamlins and the Sullivans at Doc's Seafood Shack. Laughed and reminisced about the good old days on D-Dock. Tomorrow we're heading to Texas!

Mar 18, 2015 - Tallahasssee, FL to Gulf Shores, AL

Changed time zones today and messed with my internal clock. We arrived at Gulf State Park Campground around 4:30pm and got set up on our site before setting out for a walk to find our friends Jim & Jan Hamlin, who have been staying here since early November as snowbirds from Michigan. We found them and got a tour of the campground and their RV and then went to dinner at Mikee's Seafood. This is when things got fun! As we were waiting for our food to arrive, a young man came over to our table and suddenly pulled up a chair and sat down,...

Rolling in the miles. We headed West to get away from the cold. We drove about 200 miles (5 hours) from Gulf Shores, AL to New Orleans, LA. Today on Hwy 10W. Not much to see. Back on the road after our night at Segnette State Park. Left camp at 8:30 am and headed to Beaumont, TX via Hwy 10W for an overnight at Walmart. We stopped at Chicken On...

Feb 17, 2015 - Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, AL

2/17 – 2/19/15 (2 nights) While checking into the Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, AL at 4:30 pm, I got 3 Mardi Gras beads from a lady coming back from the afternoon parade. She had tons of beads on her. Our site, #2, is right across from the restroom and showers and very level on a concrete pad. This park has no internet and no cable. Our site is a few sites away (walking distance) from the intercostal waterway. The camp store was having a winter sale, 50% off stuff. The nature center was kinda cool. I saw my first alligator (2 baby one), a...

Jan 7, 2015 - Gulf Shores State Park

We can now say we have tested the retirement waters---we attended the Ohio Snowbird Club breakfast today at LULU's restaurant (she is Jimmy Buffets sister) There were about 100 people there from all over Ohio. I was lucky enough to win a 25.00 gift card to LULU's. Had a relaxing day reading and napping. Went for a walk on the beach and one of their hiking trails tonight.

Headed down to Gulf Shores Alabama today and checked in at the Gulf Shores State park.Looks like a really nice campground with lots of activities. Drove down the main strip and checked out the beach. Too bad it is too cold to swim but it has been a sunny day in the 60's.Walked on the peer and saw lots of pelicans, blue heron and jellyfish. It was pretty cloudy at sunset but still a nice view.

May 11, 2014 - Gulf State Park

Day 4 Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, Al Sunday, Mother’s Day Today we left St. Andrews and traveled to Gulf State Park in Alabama. This decision was due in part to the fact that the parks we had hoped to stay at, Topsail, Henderson Beach, Fort Pickens, were all booked. Gulf State Park is just past Perdido Key, one of the barrier islands off of the gulf. The trip was about 133 miles but took us about 4 hours, traveling along SR 98. It wasn’t a bad drive but there was a lot of traffic through the beachy towns. Gulf State Park is huge! There...

Nov 30, 2013 - Gulf Shores, AL

Welcome Back! Actually it is not November, but May 2014. We thought we would give you a break from our ramblings – we did that, but also got lazy, so we will try to catch up over the next couple of weeks. Happy Thanksgiving from Alabama – we stopped here for a month in November to rest and recharge from our trek to Alaska and back. The campground is a beautiful motor coach resort, and at this time of the year, the area is pretty laid back. The resort hosted a very nice Thanksgiving buffet with each guest bringing a dish. The variety was...

Nov 11, 2013 - Gulf Shores of Alabama

We finally left Gadsden, it was a little sad for us as we we're leaving Wayne and family behind. Yet at the same time was super exciting as our adventure was about to begin. We had a beautiful drive down to the Gulf Shores and it was so nice to see the change in scenery. We we're really amazed at how flat it was as we got closer to ocean. We arrived at the Gulf Breeze Resort and Met up with Greg and Judy who we had met when we went to the Nuwa Rally in Yellowstone back in 09. We went for a great Sea Food dinner that evening and caught up...

Al & Jan on the Road

Oct 25, 2013 - Gulf Shores, AL

From Albuquerque, we headed east across I-40 stopping to see family and friends before dropping south to Gulf Shores, AL. We are in a beautiful Motorcoach resort and plan to stay in this area about 5 weeks. We will then go to Tampa for service on the coach and service on us (you know, doctor visits!). We are here primarily to rest and vegetate, so we’ll be in hibernation through the holidays, but as we visit sites and see interesting things, we’ll post them to the site. Stay tuned!!

Jun 23, 2013 - Day 7 A Rainy Day in Alabama

Dodging the raindrops we braved the winds and inclement weather to go to the beach one last time before heading north tomorrow morning. Rolling dark clouds over the gulf gave little warning before dumping buckets of rain, each shower was brief and after all we had our swimsuits on so getting wet was no problem:)
