Nov 9, 2015 - "Sweet Home Alabama"

Still awaiting the first frost in Tennessee, but the weather has been gray, wet, and cool and we are ready for a change of scenery. This morning, we rolled in our slide, stowed our doormat, and headed for the highway. Alabama, here we come! We were quickly on I-65 headed south. Rain persisted through last night and all day today. Luckily, there were no traffic jams or incidents. We stopped at the Alabama Welcome Center to pick up some brochures and trudged in through the rain only to find it closed for training. Another disappointed couple...

May 18, 2015 - Our winter in Alabama

It certainly wasn’t my intention to discontinue posting to our trip journal this winter but it seems that that is what happened. I don’t even have a good excuse but I guess I will try to give you a quick recap of the last few months. Since Bob and I went “on the road” in 2008 we have led a fairly carefree, stress-free, drama-free life but this winter a couple of things happened that snapped us back to reality. The first was when shortly after we arrived in Alabama we heard from Bob’s sister Sue that her husband Scott had a heart attack,...

Oct 11, 2014 - The rest of our trip South

After we left Staunton, VA we spent four nights at the Wytheville KOA in Wytheville, VA. The campground was very nice, it is under new ownership and many improvements are being made. There are three or four nice antique malls in the area so of course we had to check those out. The next stop was in Baileyton, TN at the Around Pond Campground. We have stayed in many areas of Eastern Tennessee so we decided to stay somewhere we hadn’t been before. Baileyton is not near any points of interest so we spent most of the week hanging out at the...

May 13, 2012 - Day before Departure

>Its mothers day and 2 days before we depart. Chloe is very nervous, knows something is happening and doesn't want to be left out. A few more things and we should be ready...of course we may never be completely ready, we can always find things on the road. I'm learning new things about this rig every day.

Apr 5, 2010 - Greenville, AL

April 8: We were supposed to leave here today. It was raining pretty hard this morning as we broke down the RV and hooked up the truck. We were all set to leave when Paul plugged in his tire pressure monitor. Both inside rear tires were reading more than 20 pounds low. Had to be the inside tires - the hardest to get to. So he had to remove the wheel covers and manually check the tire pressure. Sure enough, both were extremely low. He had to drag out the air compressor and add air to the tires. By now he had 3 tee-shirts and 2 pair of pants...

Nov 13, 2009 - Let's Golf!

Today Neal, Karen and Lenny decided to golf and I rode along. Just around the corner here is a Robert Trent Jones Golf Course called Cambrian Ridge. Talk about beautiful!!! They played the short course which is really quite challenging. It is hilly and there is water on every hole. I decided to call the golfers "The Ultram Clan" since all three of them have recently had cortisone shots in some body part and are on the pain killer, Ultram! We had a good time, wonderful sunny weather and lots of laughs watching to see where the wayward balls...

Nov 12, 2009 - My Friend, the Peacock

This a.m.. and this evening I took my walk around the park here. It's so pretty that I really enjoy it. Both times I met the peacock. This evening I saw 12 wild turkeys. I took a picture of the peacock and will add it tomorrow. We found that a couple we know from Crystal River is here--Leonard and Karen, so I chatted with them this afternoon. They spend a month here on their way south and a month on their way back. They said Neal should try the golf course around the corner cause it is quite beautiful. So perhaps tomorrow. We drove into the...

Nov 11, 2009 - Greenville, AL

Today we had a nice drive south down I-65 to Greenville, AL. We are in Sherling Lakes Campground, a lovely place that has two lakes, lots of trees, lush green growth and large, comfortable sites. I took a walk this afternoon and met a male peacock and over to the side of the road was his harem, 8 female peacocks. The girls ran away but the male was quite proud and just kept looking for food. Tomorrow when I walk, I'll take my camera and hope to meet something interesting. We settled in here for 4 days. We'll explore the park and the city...

Nov 10, 2009 - Run We Did!

From Sherling Park & Campground – Greenville, AL Note the new location in the byline above. So yes, we did “Run”! We left Gulf Shores about 8:30 yesterday morning deciding to move about 140 miles northeast into the interior of the state from the coastline. We left amongst a few others also deciding to vacate the park. However, many more were making the decision to stay and experience what Ida would bring ashore. Once we arrived at our new temporary location, we set up the satellite and turned on the Weather Channel to see what we had left...

Home Sweet RV - 2009

Oct 31, 2009 - Greenville, AL

We drove in the rain most of the day Saturday to get to Greenville, Alabama. We are staying at Sherling Lake Park which is a very nice little campground owned by the city of Greenville. The sites are large, the price is low and the setting is serene. We plan on staying here for 2 nights before heading to Gulf Shores on November 2. On Sunday the sun came out and it is a very nice day. Paul is washing off the road grit from yesterday's drive. Can't show up dirty.

Mar 14, 2009 - A Change In Plans

We headed out early this morning for Evergreen, Alabama. It was a pretty drive going up 49, and hitting 59 to get us over to 84, where the majority of the trip was made. Just for your info, this is a very hilly route. It didn’t look that way on the map, but it is. It is also apparently a Truck Route, cause we saw a million of them. I am not getting along with the new GPS at all, so I’m once more going to get Lilly out and see if I can figure out what is ailing her. If I can’t get Lily to work again, I’m afraid I will have to replace the new...

The Frugal Travelers

Mar 2, 2009 - Feb. 28-Mar. 2, 2009 Greenville, AL

Sherling Lake RV Park Well you can tell we are on our trek north as we had snow last night and it is snowing now. We ran a few errands and then checked out the Robert Trent Golf Course here but it was bitter cold. The course is really cool and I would love to golf it one day but now it is covered in snow. I hope it warms up soon. I guess we have been spoiled living in the south in the winter
