Nov 20, 2020 - Foley AL

After a day of tinkering and computer stuff on Sunday, we kicked things into gear on Monday. We had to get at least some of our packing done for the Chicago journey because Tuesday is the day that we relocate the coach for its cabinet work and Michele has an appointment in Tuscumbia to get her nails done. I ran some errands – the bank, post office, Dollar Tree and the jeweler – along with the almost mandatory daily trip to the campground store for some last minute parts while Michele did some more wedding things and whipped up another Key...

Nov 3, 2019 - Weekend Update

Well it is Sunday night and I have a few notes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. To start with we have a few issues with the truck. We think it is the battery, which is over four years old and the recent cold snap. It has not failed to start but it is loosing power and the central monitor is loosing power and everything has to be reset...date/time, radio stations, etc.. It has been sluggish on a couple of starts and we decided to take it by the local Chevrolet dealership and have them check the battery. This was Friday afternoon while we were...

Oct 31, 2019 - Happy Halloween

Oh Halloween. Behind the locked gates of the resort...there are no trick or treaters. Therefore, no chance that we cannot keep our hands out of the candy. We didn't buy any! Thank goodness... And that is complicated by the fact that the weather has changed ever since 10:00 a.m. this morning. The front came blowing through from the southwest. At least two different bands of thunderstorms have passed through. Each lasted about an hour and a half. Then the sun broke out about 3:30 and the wind started coming from the north. From 78 degrees at...

Oct 29, 2019 - Two easy days

Monday started out clear and warm. We decided to go toward Mobile. We went to Bass Pro Shop in Spanish Fort and then on into Mobile. It had been a long time since we had been through the tunnel on I-10 under the Mobile River. It was easy in the truck and should not be too much trouble if we decide to head home on I-10 in the Bus. We had no special stop to make in Mobile, it was more just driving around and finding a place to have lunch. We finally broke from shrimp and had lunch at Moe's in west Mobile. That should make our granddaughter in...

Oct 27, 2019 - The football days...or World Series days...

Saturday, and now that we are back in the central time zone, Game Day starts at 8:00 a.m. instead of waiting until 9:00 in the eastern time zone. Coffee and Game Day...what a way to start the day. Little did we know that this might be the highlight of the day. If you look at the football games, well, it went something like this: Arkansas looked worse than expected...a lot worse Auburn seemed to park the Gus Bus and sucked at LSU...again Oklahoma...well Jalen Hurts hurts today since OU forgot to take their defense to Kansas State ...

Oct 25, 2019 - Ah...the Gulf Coast

Thursday morning at Spring Villa RV Park was cool. It was about 50 degrees outside when Ziva and I went for our early walk. Since it was a cool morning Ziva took longer than usual but we were back in the Bus after about 30 minutes. Then it was time to eat and pack up for our trip to Foley. A little after 9:30 we decided to add air to the tires on the Bus since the cool temperatures had them showing below the pressures we wanted. It takes close to an hour to get the six tires inflated and balanced to the proper levels...after you get the...

Jun 15, 2019 - Car show and outlet mall

We took it easy today, went to the farmers market and car show by OWA that was almost over. Did see some neat cars and a rat mobile (old Studebaker) that was unique. Then went back to OWA shopping center with more people in it this time. The Crazy Donut shop was open but they were just to crazy for us. Afterward we went to the outlet mall and Ray got a underarmour shirt - looked at the Kitchen Collection shop too. This outlet mall is healthy - few open areas for shops and lots of shoppers.

Jun 14, 2019 - Downtown Foley

Today we visited downtown Foley. They have a railroad museum but the model train was not running today. Then we went to the original hospital. The downstairs entrance was a retail location. The hospital was a private enterprise that included a clinic and hospital that were on the 2nd floor - kept the dust down to make it more sanitary. The hospital operated from 1936 to 1958 and at that time the doors were closed with all the equipment in place as it was too obsolete to be needed at the new facility - leaving a legacy about how medicine was...

Jun 13, 2019 - Fort Morgan

What a difference a day makes. Got up in the AM and there was ice in the ice maker! Now it just has to keep making ice and we’ll be all set. Thank goodness. We drove around the resort to check out all the resale lots. Looks as if at least half of the lots are for resale. There was a “cold” front that came through - by 8 AM it was hot again so it’s summertime now and we have clear skies. today we drove over a toll bridge to Orange Beach and then drove along the coast through Gulf Shores and to Fort Morgan. Lots of beach accommodations,...

Jun 12, 2019 - Bella Terra

Had a good drive to Foley, there is a divided highway that leaves the interstate that allowed us to avoid any real city traffic to the campground. This is an ownership resort that is still selling lots - we are next to a vacant lot where a clubhouse will be built later and the RV lots are unimproved on the other side of us so it’s quiet. Improved sold lots are in back of us - not quite as upscale as the place we stayed in Michigan so most likely more affordable. Very nice however, have good WIFI and the Dish comes in all channels. The...

Apr 8, 2019 - Getting Ready to Move!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (4/7) STEPHANIE!!!! Like everyone else, she doesn’t like having them but likes the alternative even less. It is now three weeks before we head west with a necessary stop in Red Bay, AL to have a new door put on the coach - the metal near the latch is giving way and making the door hard to open. I think both of us are ready to hit the road again - after 16 months in one spot, the coach seems to be getting smaller, so we know it is time to get moving. Couple points of note: 1. As we get ready to move, gas prices are rising (of...

Feb 23, 2018 - Happy New Year!!

Hello and a belated HAPPY NEW YEAR to our friends and relatives. We are in Gulf Shores, AL and have been since late September. We have been dealing with our normal winter chores – going to doctors. Steph went ahead with the right knee replacement and seemed to breeze through the surgery and rehab. She was released by the doctor in January with an A-OK rating. (The rating does not indicate an increase in speed, just that it got full flex and extension and it doesn’t hurt.) Guess old age means that one or the both of you have something to...
