Jan 15, 2016 - Keeping Busy

December and all the Holiday excitement is now behind us and the rest of the Snowbirds have arrived for the winter. The Annual Boat Parade, Greedy Santa Party, and Christmas Dinner were lots of fun. Dan and I keep quite busy with something going on every night and a busy daytime schedule as well. Monday begins Texas Hold 'Em, followed by Poker, Bingo, Mexican Train, Ice Cream Social/Jam Session, and Breakfast on Saturday (put on by volunteers here at the campgrounds). We have tickets for the Branson Tour in Loxley and a casino trip to...

Dec 3, 2015 - Some sadness and looking forward to winter fun

After we left Dumplin Valley Farm RV Park we made three more stops before arriving at our winter home in Foley, Alabama. We spent a week at Raccoon Mountain Campground in Chattanooga, TN, then 2 nights at Birmingham South Campground in Pelham, AL and 2 nights at Sherling Lake Park Campground in Greenville, AL. For the most part we just did a lot of relaxing and not much sight seeing. We arrived at Anchors Aweigh RV Resort on October 14th, the weather was wonderful and we were happy to be back. While we were on the road Bob ordered a new...

Nov 29, 2015 - Trip South

With much anticipation, Dan and I left Delaware on Nov. 11th for our Southern home for the winter. On the way, we stopped for a few nights in Nashville,TN and stayed at Two Rivers Campground. One night we went to the Grand Ol Opry to see Ronnie Milsap and strolled Broadway(Music Row)which was elbow to elbow with young people who were visiting all the bars along the way with country music blaring out of each one. The nice part of the experience was that we took a shuttle into town from the campgrounds and left our car parked at the...

Mar 28, 2015 - Back Home

Our trip went by way too fast! We arrived back home on March 25th. and the 28th we had snow showers. Brrrr! We left Florida the morning of the 23rd and traveled in the rain, again, to Palmetto Shores RV Resort in Summerton, S.C. for the night. The next morning we left with the intention of staying in VA Beach for the night but then as we neared our destination, we decided to go on over the Bridge/Tunnel and pull into Cherrystone RV Park, a short distance away. This cut out the busy morning traffic on the bridge and got us one step closer to...

Mar 13, 2015 - Enjoying Florida

Arrived at Sugar Hill MHP, New Smyrna Beach, FL on Mar. 6th, after spending the night at Yogi Bear's Camp Resort in Madison, FL. We had rain & wind the entire way. Dan and John Dunning unloaded the motorcycles and we spent the next few days taking in Bike Week events in Daytona Beach. We hooked up with cousin Sue & Tim Suppe, who live in New Smyrna Beach during the winter months, around the corner from my Aunt Jean and Uncle Max. Sue & Tim had their son, Doug, with them for a few days and we all went to the Daytona Flea Market and had lunch...

Mar 1, 2015 - Packing Up for Daytona Bike Week

We are getting ready to leave Foley, AL on Thursday for Daytona Bike Week. It will be a sad day leaving all our friends here at Anchors Aweigh. We plan to steam Gulf Shrimp for the Dunnings tomorrow and Dan will play golf on Tuesday. Wednesday we will pack up to make the trip to Florida. Both of us are fighting colds which puts a damper on our day's activities. Last week we visited the Foley train museum with the Dunnings which included a working model train with an interesting moderator. It is well worth seeing! Afterwards, we ate lunch at...

Feb 10, 2015 - busy schedule

John & Donna Dunning brought us our motorcycle on Feb. 1st, Dan's birthday. We have enjoyed their company and the rides and meals we have shared. They have Donna's 91 year old Dad with them who has more energy than all of us. He has gotten acquainted with the folks at Rainbow Plantation where there RV is parked. John was in Biloxi during Katrina and we are planning a trip there next week to see the changes made since that horrific storm. Dan and I are getting ready for our Mardi Gras experience during parades at Foley and Gulf Shores on...

Jan 27, 2015 - Getting Acquainted

At the end of January, we can say that we have become acquainted with lots of people here at Anchors Aweigh. If the weather is nice, you can find clusters of people talking with each other and it becomes a social event. I have continued exercise class in the mornings, play Bingo, Mexican Train Dominoes, Scrabble, craft day, and attend social events including Friday night jam sessions/ice cream social, Sat. and Sun. morning breakfasts, and dinner nights out with various groups of friends. This week Dan and I are going on a casino bus trip to...

Jan 10, 2015 - sickness

Everyone here in the park seems to have contracted head colds and all the symptoms that go with it. Dan has been in his chair sleeping on and off for the past 2 days. He had a friend who was supposed to arrive today from Delaware and they had made plans to play some golf. Needless to say, Larry is bypassing us and going right to Florida. Can't blame him. It has been cold to the point that we have had to run our water for the past 3 nights to keep the pipes from freezing. Weatherman promises the temps will get warmer over the next few days....

Jan 4, 2015 - Christmas in Foley

Christmas in Alabama was different being away from home. To keep from being sad about not being with our family during the Holidays, we volunteered to help decorate the Club House and prepare and serve Christmas Dinner. It was a good time to meet people and we enjoyed being part of the festivities. Temperatures here have been up and down like everywhere else. It is 70 deg. one day and mid 50s to 60 the next. Last night there was a tornado watch about 1:00am and about 12 people went to the club house which is built to withstand storms. Dan...
