Mar 1, 2015 - Packing Up for Daytona Bike Week

We are getting ready to leave Foley, AL on Thursday for Daytona Bike Week. It will be a sad day leaving all our friends here at Anchors Aweigh. We plan to steam Gulf Shrimp for the Dunnings tomorrow and Dan will play golf on Tuesday. Wednesday we will pack up to make the trip to Florida. Both of us are fighting colds which puts a damper on our day's activities. Last week we visited the Foley train museum with the Dunnings which included a working model train with an interesting moderator. It is well worth seeing! Afterwards, we ate lunch at...

Feb 10, 2015 - busy schedule

John & Donna Dunning brought us our motorcycle on Feb. 1st, Dan's birthday. We have enjoyed their company and the rides and meals we have shared. They have Donna's 91 year old Dad with them who has more energy than all of us. He has gotten acquainted with the folks at Rainbow Plantation where there RV is parked. John was in Biloxi during Katrina and we are planning a trip there next week to see the changes made since that horrific storm. Dan and I are getting ready for our Mardi Gras experience during parades at Foley and Gulf Shores on...

Jan 27, 2015 - Getting Acquainted

At the end of January, we can say that we have become acquainted with lots of people here at Anchors Aweigh. If the weather is nice, you can find clusters of people talking with each other and it becomes a social event. I have continued exercise class in the mornings, play Bingo, Mexican Train Dominoes, Scrabble, craft day, and attend social events including Friday night jam sessions/ice cream social, Sat. and Sun. morning breakfasts, and dinner nights out with various groups of friends. This week Dan and I are going on a casino bus trip to...

Jan 10, 2015 - sickness

Everyone here in the park seems to have contracted head colds and all the symptoms that go with it. Dan has been in his chair sleeping on and off for the past 2 days. He had a friend who was supposed to arrive today from Delaware and they had made plans to play some golf. Needless to say, Larry is bypassing us and going right to Florida. Can't blame him. It has been cold to the point that we have had to run our water for the past 3 nights to keep the pipes from freezing. Weatherman promises the temps will get warmer over the next few days....

Jan 4, 2015 - Christmas in Foley

Christmas in Alabama was different being away from home. To keep from being sad about not being with our family during the Holidays, we volunteered to help decorate the Club House and prepare and serve Christmas Dinner. It was a good time to meet people and we enjoyed being part of the festivities. Temperatures here have been up and down like everywhere else. It is 70 deg. one day and mid 50s to 60 the next. Last night there was a tornado watch about 1:00am and about 12 people went to the club house which is built to withstand storms. Dan...

Dec 16, 2014 - Boat Parade

On Sat. night, Dec. 13th, we attended the Holiday Boat Parade on the Intercoastal Waterway near Gulf Shores. Hundreds lined the canal to view approx. 40 decorated boats with their bright lights, lively music and wishes of Merry Christmas sounding across the water. The couples we were with thought we should plan a tailgate party next year. Afterwards, we went to a Chinese buffet for a bite to eat before heading back to the RV. Yesterday, Dan thought we had waited long enough for some Gulf Shrimp so we rode to Billy's Seafood, located on Bon...

Dec 13, 2014 - Foley, Alabama

After several days of rainy, windy weather, we arrived in Foley, AL on November 30th, a day earlier than we planned. After leaving Delaware, we spent the first night in Selma, N.C. at the RVacation RV Park (which was $30 for elec and water), then ventured to Augusta, GA, where we stayed at the Heritage RV Park($25 per day). We were in luck because this is a small campsite and a spot had opened up just 15 min. prior to our arrival. We spent 2 days here over Thanksgiving, watched some football games, and cooked a small chicken in the...

Oct 29, 2014 - Alabama here we come!

We are getting everything in order to make our journey south at the end of November. So much to do, eg. stop newspapers, mail, cable, etc; follow-ups with doctors, dentists, eye surgeon, and meds. This time we have decided to have someone winterize our house while we are gone so we won't have to worry about power failure during a winter storm. We will also celebrate Christmas with family in New York State before we leave so we have presents to purchase and plans to be made to get together. Once everything is done, we will be on our way to...

Oct 15, 2014 - Gulf Shores and Foley, AL

We returned to our normal stopping place for a month to take care of doctor and dental visits. Both of us have been declared in good health and received prescriptions for the next six months. While we were here, an addition was made to our wandering ways. We got a Harley Davidson three-wheeler, aka a Trike. There is some finger-pointing on whose idea this was, but the truth of the matter – Stephanie wanted to stop at the HD museum in Milwaukee and that started the process. So you can decide on your own whose idea this really was! For those...

Apr 13, 2014 - Alabama Must End

A relaxing couple of days in Foley Alabama with not much to do but great weather. One little minor fiasco when my oxygen concentrator stopped working. The two pieces of good news are that I did bring plenty of supplemental oxygen bottles this trip so was not without oxygen and American Home Patient is fantastic. The problem occurred at the end of the day on Friday, but they still managed to have a replacement unit delivered to me Saturday morning. The only thing we had to do was return the old unit by FedEx at their cost. Wow!! That's...

No Snow For Us

Apr 12, 2014 - Bye Bye Louisiana

All good things must come to an end, so we had a Last Crawfish Supper at Hawks on Thursday night, and oh they were good. This was after stocking up on some crawfish tails, alligator tenderloin and boudin balls for the freezer. Wish we had a bigger freezer. Half the boudin balls didn't survive last night. We are now in Foley Alabama to do some tag swapping on the truck, and just might find some Royal Reds and Throwed rolls while we're here! There's also a barbeque stand on the way to the Royal Reds that we discovered last trip which has been...
