Florida 2014

Sep 3, 2013 - First Day

I'm doing this for the first time so I'm not sure how it's going to work. This is a test entry. I hope it works. We left Eustis on Sunday, Sept. 1 and traveled to Dothan. AL, where we spent the rest of the Labor Day weekend with the Adams family. We left Dothan this morning, Tuesday (9/3)and drove to Conway, Arkansas. Other than stopping for gas and rest areas the only other stops were at the Welcome Stations of Mississippi and Arkansas so I could pick up the state maps. As my family knows I love maps and I want to have a map of every...

May 2, 2013 - Dothan, Alabama

We wish this was a longer stop for us, but we left Pensacola a day early. We determined that the drive from Pensacola to FT. Benning was way longer than a normal days drive for us, so we wanted to break it up. As it turns out that was a good decision on our part as the drive to Dothan was only 176 miles. Rebecca drove 160 of those miles. We pulled into the Pecan Point RV Park in the early afternoon. we got setup and unhitched quickly so we could get to the old downtown area of this nice little southern town. We heard from the RV park host...

Apr 23, 2012 - Army Aviation Museum - Fort Rucker, Alabama

United States Army Aviation Museum, Fort Rucker, Alabama Today we visited the Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker, Alabama. This is the base that Bill attended advanced training for helicopter crew chief back in 1971. Needless to say the Fort didn’t look the same today. The museum maintains one of the largest collections of Army helicopters, airplanes, and unmanned aircraft in the country. More than 50 beautifully restored, one of a kind aircraft, are displayed inside the spacious exhibit halls and outside around the museum grounds. The...

Mar 12, 2012 - Dothan AL or bust

Last night was turn the clocks ahead night. I wasn't feeling well, went to bed early and did not set the clocks. Shirley set her cell alarm to 7 AM and for some reason her phone did not automatically update like it should. When the alarm went off I said remember it is 8 AM but she didn't hear me. Church was at 8:30 and when I went to take my shower I said, "I guess we are not making the service". Our clock said 7:30 but it was 8:30. I came in the house and Mart was all ready to go! There was a 9:45 service and we made it in plenty of time....

Nov 11, 2011 - Tuscaloosa & Dothan, AL

Friday, November 11 When we got up this morning in Meridian, MS, it was 29 degrees and frost all around. We left the Nanabe Creek Campground about 7:45 am and headed north on I-59. It was beautiful to see the sunshine on the colorful fall foliage. We crossed into Alabama and continued north to Tuscaloosa. We parked in a lot behind Tutwiler Hall, the residence hall that our granddaughter, Kristi, lives in at the University of Alabama. She was ready to join us about 11:30 am. Her dorm is just across the street from the football stadium. Roll...

Oct 31, 2011 - Overnight in Dothan, AL

From Dothan, Alabama … Monday, October 31, 2011 Today was a travel day for us, and the weather was very nice. We took our time getting on the road this morning since we were just planning to stay overnight in a parking lot somewhere. It was almost noon by the time we left Lake Hartwell. The “fun” part of the trip (NOT!) was driving straight through Atlanta. But we timed it so the traffic was not terribly bad, and Charlie did a great job handling all the traffic in six lanes and maneuvering around tractor trailers, etc. Ugh! We traveled...

On the Road Again

May 1, 2011 - All done, ready to roll

Yesterday was a day of getting things done. It is nice to have been in Dothan AL. for three days and get to see Collins and Scott and to get organized. We did big groceries at Publix (yea!), went to Camping World, Lowes and Walmart for fuel and some other items. Had a nice lunch with the kids, enjoyed counting the trucks (actually not many trucks on Saturday). After church today we are headed to Florida to become residents and are staying at what is considered to be the jewel of Florida state parks. We will have lots of pictures. Enjoy these...

Apr 30, 2011 - Squeaky clean

You know how it feels when you haven't showered in 2 or three days? Well the big honkin' dually and our camper finally got their bath. It has been considerably more than 2 or 3 days. In fact they both had doctor visits too. The big honkin' got an oil change and air in the tires. The camper had an RV doctor fix our troublesome leaking kitchen sink hose. Personal note here to Steve, Jeanne Orilio's brother. All your fixes except this one are holding just fine. They also gave us more information on a couple of chronic issues we have. Nothing...

Apr 29, 2011 - Looking forward

Now that we all have had an opportunity to see the devastation caused by the storms and tornadoes I have to be blatantly honest here, I was very scared. We were right in the thick of things for 3 days. It did take our focus off having the fun we had been having. Our prayers of gratitude for our safety and hope for the those so struck by the storms all across the South East. So, let's move forward. The sun finally came out yesterday and we took the opportunity to drive 270 miles to Dothan Alabama where our youngest daughter Collins lives...
