Jan 1, 2020 - Foscue Creek COE (10/20 - 10/21/19)

We stayed here back in January when we were heading west. Joanne (Tim's sister) was with us and the weather was so very cold and windy it was hard to enjoy being outside. This time it was a beautiful day so we spent it outside by the fire. We were only going to stay one day, but Monday was supposed to be rainy and we decided to stay an extra day. We went to Walmart and bought a movie, "Going In Style", a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. Our site this time was right on the water across the water from where we stayed before. I think this...

Dec 6, 2018 - Foscue Creek Park (12/3 - 12/4/18)

We arrived at Foscue Creek Park to stay one night. This is a beautiful Corps of Engineers (COE) park. We are very fond of COE parks because they are all located on water and are always nice. We stayed in site #25 right next to the lake. This park also had a couple of extra amenities. The sites had sewer hookups which they usually don't. They also had a washer and dryer in the bathhouse. I even used the laundry before we left. Each site was a concrete pad with a large pea gravel area. That was great because Joanne prefers to sleep outside in...

Aug 8, 2018 - On the road 3 months today!!!

The usual start to the morning! Alarm goes off at 5:00am . . .hit the snooze button a few times then up and pack! Breakfast was just about as delicious (not!) as dinner last night! We walked across the parking lot to the gas station/store across the street and did the best we could for breakfast. There were hot breakfast sandwiches like a biscuit with some sort of meat, looked like ham (!?), cheese and once it was half eaten there was an additional ingredient I presume used to be an egg! But I am here to write about it, so it must have been...

May 13, 2016 - Golfing at Robert Trent Jones Course

Today we left our campsite at Westpoint, Ga, traveled for about 20 miles to Opelousas, Alabama to a Robert Trent Jones golf course. We played the short course and it was a great day of golfing. The weather was perfect, the course was the prettiest I've ever seen. We all agreed the course was beautiful and was a lot of fun. Had lunch in the club house then headed back to campsite. I provided a crockpot dinner of pork roast, so all four of us sat at our picnic table outside of our camper and ate while reminincing about our golf game. Watched...

May 11, 2016 - Sightseeing and Golfing in Demopolis

This morning after enjoying our coffee among the trees, birds chirping, nice breeze, we made a plan to visit the plantation home Gaineswood not far from our campsite and in the middle of Demopolis. The house was completed on the eve of the American Civil War after a construction period of 20 years. It was fascinating to tour. Headed back to campsite for lunch, a quick rest and back out again to play 9 holes of golf at Ravine Golf Course in Demopolis. Pretty scenary, golf was not too bad either, except for a few "oops" by me. Back to...

May 10, 2016 - Heading to Demopolis, Alabama

Heading to Demopolis, Alabama on our 2nd day of travel. Last night we arrived at our destination in Madisonville, La after dark due to our trip delay because of the brakes issue. Trying to back the fifth wheel into the camp site was fun (not). Mike, Anne, a park ranger and I were all trying to direct Bob by telling which way to turn, all the while Bob was saying I can't see a thing!!! Note to self, try not to ever reach your destination after dark. After getting situated, eating a quick meal, catching up with Mike and Anne, we retired to...

Jun 26, 2013 - OTRA - AL - Demopolis

Off we go, into the wild blue yonder....well, not exactly. More like, "Off we go, along the long, smooth highway".....and many of the miles we traveled today were nice and smooth. Took Rte 49 north from Gulfport and then a short job on 98 west to meet up with I-59 that brought us up to SR 80 East into Demopolis and here we are, about 4 1/2 hours later (had to stop at the Alabama Welcome Center for a geocache), all set up at the Foscue Lake Corps of Engineers Park...$10 a night and it's beautiful here. We have a nice level paved pull-thru...

Jun 15, 2010 - OTRA - AL - Demopolis

6/15/10 Wow, talk about “out of the frying pan and into the fire”, today it felt like we did it…literally. The temps in Gulf Shores have been in the high 90’s, hitting about 101° in the shade some afternoons. Needless to say, we do most of our moving around outdoors in the evening!! Anyway, today we left our beloved Gulf Shores, heading our way slowly up to Indiana where we will be replacing our sofa with 2 recliners. Today our goal was the Foscue Corps of Engineers Park in Demopolis, AL. Left Gulf Shores around 11:00 a.m. and had an easy...

Feb 25, 2010 - Foscue Creek COE Park Demoplis, AL

Site 51 - Great views of the river from both sides of the motorhome. There is a tree right in front of the passenger side slide that makes is impossible to extend the awning. This is a great site for the winter but in the summer you would want to use the awning. There is not much to do in Demopolis but it is a great place to just get away from it all. The Verizon wireless connection is excellent.
