Jan 4, 2014 - The Bags are Packed / 2013 Journal Entry

The bags are packed and we would like to thank everyone for their donations. Tomorrow we will gather for Sunday services and Monday morning at 4:00 am we depart from Church of the Apostles. Thank you to Daphne United Methodist Church for the loan of the bus and the driver who volunteered to deliver us to the Pensacola Airport. I thought I would add an excerpt from my Haiti January 2013 journal with a few of my first impressions from my first trip. DAY 6 ~ Children can only enter the "private" school at HOM in Pre-K and attend through 6th...

Jan 3, 2014 - Countdown to Liftoff

It is hard to believe that when we fed the horses this morning it was 28° here in the Fairhope area. Currently in Montrouis, Haiti it is 81° and the high there today is 91. It looks like we will be blessed with great weather! Only 2 days until we leave.

Jan 2, 2014 - Preparations

Preparations are almost complete. Today and tomorrow we are gathering last minute supplies and donations and will meet Saturday morning to pack large suitcases full of office, medical and kitchen supplies as well as everything we will need for our agricultural focus. 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many...

Mar 24, 2010 - Day 2: Three states in one day

After spending the night in the WalMart parking lot in Daphne, Alabama, we went to Waffle House and had a nice, hot breakfast! Then headed for Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile. The USS Alabama is extremely impressive - we spent 3 hours touring the ship. Got plenty of exercise - we climbed ladders through 8 levels, walked bow to stern and starboard to port. After lunch in the camper, we toured the building with lots of planes (pictures will be up later). Then on the USS Drum, a WW II sub. The walk through that wasn't as long but going...

Nov 27, 2009 - Second Trip To Daphne

From Gulf Breeze Resort – Gulf Shores, AL Temps dropped below 40 last night with a low of 39 degrees and it never reached the projected 64 degrees today. However the sun shone brightly and if you stayed out of the shade the high 50’s were warm enough for long sleeves with no coat needed. We decided after getting up this morning that if we took the back county roads to reach our destination in Daphne once again, “Black Friday” traffic would not interfere with plans to visit two churches; one containing the city of Daphne Museum today. So we...

Nov 23, 2009 - A Different Twist On Sports

From Gulf Breeze Resort – Gulf Shores, AL “Hello There”, boy how the days have flown by since my last post. We have just been enjoying time with others like ourselves, living the RV lifestyle here at the park. Like I have alluded to in prior entries, this lifestyle requires you to do the little things that the “stick house” lifestyle required. Cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, cooking, as well as minor repairs here and there still are a part of many days. Well, this is exactly what has transpired along with a couple of gray rainy stay...
