Mar 29, 2014 - Day 6

Well... Once again, we got woken up by cute little Ellsie! Katelyn & I had drunkenly made a list of things we needed to do this day & surprisingly enough, we got most of it done! We went searching for a taser for me but couldn't find one anywhere so it looks like I will have to buy one off the internet! We also did some wal-mart shopping! Then it was time for me to pack my bags & head to Atlanta! I got to Atlanta around 8pm and met my old friend from Bowling Green, Rowdy, at a local bar for a couple beers! It was soooo amazing to catch up...

Mar 28, 2014 - Day 5

Katelyn woke up early to go to work this morning and I got woken up soon after by Ellsie wanting to play! I relaxed a little in the morning and did some yoga! Then I went to the store and bought Katelyn a candle to match or apartment and got the ingredients needed to make her skyline dip!! When she got home we ate the dip and got ready to go out! We went to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the first half of the UK vs. Louisville game (Katelyn graduated from UK)! Then we went to downtown Birmingham to meet up with Katelyn's friend, Kasha, & her...

Mar 27, 2014 - Day 4

We woke up and I made Josh and I peanut butter & jelly rice cakes while we watched Silence of the Lambs. I packed up my stuff, said about a thousand thank yous, and left Nashville around 2pm. After going to the bank, filling up my gas tank and stopping to take a walk in the nice Alabama weather, I finally made it to Birmingham, Alabama! I am staying here with my very oldest friend, Katelyn Hoover! She recently moved down here for a job and didn't know anybody! We are so happy to see each other! She also recently got a new little kitten...

Jul 9, 2013 - EWTN

First stop was Birmingham Alabama. Trish visited EWTN and we went to a live TV show with Father Bart. They got lots of shots of the audience (us and 8 others) but we were unable to watch the broadcast since it started at 10 pm. Long since sleeping. The park was OK, an older park with lots of amenities, lots of showers, washers, dryers and a "Piddle Parlor" for Teddy. There were lots of empty spots but this stupid woman had to camp right on top of us. Good Sam said the sites were 30 feet wide but it sure didn't feel like that. Back on the...

Travels with Teddy

Jun 10, 2013 - Birmingham

From our spot at Oak Mountain State Park, we took another day trip up to Birmingham which was about 20 minutes away. At just 212,000, Birmingham is Alabama's largest city. Founded in 1861, it was named for one of the major industrial cities of the United Kingdom called Birmingham. Many of the original settlers who founded Birmingham were of English ancestry. According to one article, the city was planned as a place where cheap, non-unionized, and African-American labor from rural Alabama could be employed in the city's steel mills and...

May 24, 2013 - Our Adventure Begins

Waiting two plus hours for our plane to arrive in Birmingham caused a bit of concern for making our connection to Rome in Charlotte; thankfully the three hour layover gave enough cushion for us to reach the plane as it was boarding. I have to say Envoy class is worth every penny! We each had our own little pod with a private entertainment system, a seat that stretched out flat for sleeping, and attendants to cater to our needs. Ahhhhhh, la dolce vita! Unfortunately, not everyone sleeps well on a plane. While Laura and I slept a few hours...

May 22, 2013 - Birmingham, Ala.

We left Kennesaw, Ga about 7am headed to Birmingham, Ala. On I-20 at exit 136 we found a Wal Mart to leave the coach. We sure were glad the time changed and we gained an hour. We had lunch and were able to change for Michael's Memorial Service. The church, St. Mary's on the Highlands, is a beautiful old exposed beam Gothic church. I'm not sure how old it is but noticed some of the inspiring stained glass windows dated back 100 years. The sound of the organ was so majestic as the sounds reverberated around the arches in the ceiling. Michael...

Apr 22, 2013 - Birmingham AL

Quiet this time in Birmingham, no tornadoes this year! Not in this neighbourhood anyway. Even-though we arrived at the Lother during the working week, they immediately embraced us and welcomed us to their home. The height of our time together - besides morning coffees together and evenings out was Pippa's birthday! Jean and I made 4 pizzas and garlic fingers. A great cake was soon demolished by family and friends. We had chosen an apron we found in New Orleans and it was perfect - fit her personality to a "T". Pippa promised to visit us...

Voyage a Terre

Sep 8, 2012 - What a Stick in the Mud!

From Americus we drove to Birmingham, AL. We had hoped to meet up with some family and friends, but our timing wasn’t the greatest. In fact, our visit to Birmingham didn’t really work out as we had planned. There are not very many RV Parks in the area, and we had settled on one on the west side which didn’t look great but figured would be fine for a night or two. Unfortunately, the directions we had were a little off and we missed the entrance to the park; rather than drive what looked like about 10 miles out of our way to get back to the...

Jun 8, 2012 - Friday 8th June: Barber Museum

Last night after I posted my journal, we went to the restaurant next door to the hotel, Logan’s Roadhouse. We had a really lovely rib-eye steak, it was a beautiful meal. We had a leisurely start to Friday as the Barber museum doesn’t open until 10am. We breakfasted at the hotel and drove to the museum, arriving there around 9.45am. The museum overlooks the race track, and there were some Porsches driving around so we had a look at those for a few minutes. We went into the museum and asked for Brian (we’d very kindly been given an...

Jun 7, 2012 - Thursday 7th June - we enter the Deep South

Another bright sunny warm day. We had our usual breakfast at the hotel, and left just after 7.30am to head to the Corvette Factory to do a tour. The tour started at 8.30am but even though we were very early, there were already quite a few people there waiting when we got there. They showed us a short safety video then about 20 of us followed the tour guide along the “green line” around the factory. There was another group of about 20 who followed about 10 minutes behind us. There is no photography allowed in the factory, so I can’t show you...

Apr 28, 2012 - On the road again

The winter went by way too quickly but now that spring is here we were ready to get “on the road again”. This year we spent just a little over six fun filled months at our winter home, Anchors Aweigh RV Park in Foley, Alabama. We have had so much fun that I couldn’t remember all of it until I looked back at the pictures. I have to mention that I have taken over 8,000 photos since Bob and I started this journey four years ago, aren’t you glad I haven’t shared them all with you. I will post a few of my favorites taken in the last couple of...
