Apr 28, 2012 - On the road again
The winter went by way too quickly but now that spring is here we were ready to get “on the road again”. This year we spent just a little over six fun filled months at our winter home, Anchors Aweigh RV Park in Foley, Alabama. We have had so much fun that I couldn’t remember all of it until I looked back at the pictures. I have to mention that I have taken over 8,000 photos since Bob and I started this journey four years ago, aren’t you glad I haven’t shared them all with you. I will post a few of my favorites taken in the last couple of...Jump to full entry
Apr 4, 2012 - Not a good day!!!!!
We left Haines City at 8:00am this morning. Traffic was very heavy all day. We stopped in Valdosta, GA for lunch. A couple of hours later when we changed drivers, I noticed the fridge was beeping. I thought the door didn't close securely, but when I checked it I noticed it wasn't running and it was giving me a strange code. We looked for a RV repair shop all along the road with no luck. We drove longer than we should have because there are no rv parks to be found in this part of Alabama. We are now sitting in Birmingham waiting for...Jump to full entry
Jan 21, 2012 - great travel day! and anecdotal stories
Awesome travel day yesterday! I took the wheel shortly after departing Hungry Mother...well just after crossing the TN state line, and took us thru 3 more states. Pushed right past Chattanooga, our anticipated destination, thru NW Georgia and all the way into Birmingham, AL! I can handle 'ol Finny like a pro! Since we pushed it on the road, and gained an hour crossing into central time zone, decided to priceline a sweet hotel deal and have some space to run around. The weather has taken a turn for the better...60+ degrees here and from here...Jump to full entry
Jan 21, 2012 - Pelham, Alabama
Staying at the Birmingham South Campground in Pelham,AL for 2 days. Weather was great yesterday 65 degrees and I was sweating- Yeah- I enjoy the warm weather. No heater needed in the rv and bare feet and flip flops. Ace had a run in with neighbors dogs. He let them loose and 3 of them came running towards Ace who was tied out. Luckily I was nearby and yelled No very loud. I grabbed Ace and lifted him up. My finger was stuck in his prong collar and Ouch. The man was saying "he was sorry blah blah..." I don't understand why he didn't leash...Jump to full entry
Dec 29, 2011 - Merry Christmas
We arrived here in Birmingham, AL on Sunday and after parking Otto at an RV park attached to the minor league baseball team stadium where he will spend the next 10 days, we met up with old friends from Orlando, Tom & Bev Huddleston, who are now living here in Birmingham. They have a beautiful home and seem quite happy here, although Tom has been doing some consulting work in Michigan so settling in hasn’t been as easy as they had hoped. Having children and grandchildren nearby is a definite plus. Starting out the next morning for our trip...Jump to full entry
Dec 18, 2011 - Packing In and Packing Out
Well, my flight is booked and I am started to get anxious. I leave January 13th and arrive in Athens on the 14th. Now I am just trying to figure out if I have to have a return ticket (hopefully not). But all is well and I'm just trying to figure out what I'm going to pack and what I don't really need.Jump to full entry
Nov 19, 2011 - "Are you really English or are you just fucking with me?"
So today was the Turkey Fry! It was a little bit crazy. They dunk whole turkeys in a vat of oil, time how long it needs to be in there by the pound, then pull it out when its done. I will admit, as a vegetarian it did smell and look pretty good! As well as fried turkey they had dressing (which is like stuffing with chicken in it), and a white gravy you're meant to put on top, green beans with bacon, salad, coleslaw, creamed corn, cornbread, sweet potato casserole - mashed sweet potato with..wait for it...mashmallows on the top! it was...Jump to full entry
Nov 18, 2011 - There's no place like home!
So seeing as I haven't updated y'all (I am so American) in a while, thought a quiet Friday evening would be the perfect opportunity to do it.. Halloween in America was BIG! We carved lots of pumpkins, went to see Rocky Horror - which was AMAZING. Lots of water, confetti, silly string, cards, loo roll, toast and other such things being thrown all over place, as well as men in underwear walking around..very entertaining but never thought I'd see that in Alabama! We also went to a Halloween party and got to dress up! Lauren was Dorothy, Eddie...Jump to full entry
Nov 6, 2011 - Off to see the wizard..
Heyyy , Not too much has happened since I last wrote on here..We went to a Halloween party last weekend which was fun. I was Dorothy :) I thought you were supposed to be something scary on Halloween but apparently in America anything goes. I carved my first and second ever pumpkins, and they were not terrible! I did not enjoy pulling the middle out though soo slimy! This weekend I have been to the cinema to see Puss in Boots, yes I am a 5 year old. It was actually really funny, although not sure I should admit that I really enjoyed a film...Jump to full entry
Nov 6, 2011 - Adventures Today
Left RV Park today and headed southeast. About 100 mi before getting to Birmingham, we had a flat tire on the trailer. There were no shops open anywhere around. We pulled in back of a convenience store and Dad changed the tire. Everything was good and we were back on the road again. Went through Birmingham about 4:30pm on Sunday and the traffic was pretty hectic -- can't imagine it during a busy work day.Jump to full entry

Oct 17, 2011 - Leeds Alabama
We came to Leeds to visit the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, after hearing about it from Bernie at Rockville, HD and Victor from the Old Glory HOG Chapter. I'm told this guy George Barber had a dairy business and lots of land, racing cars and motorcycles is/was just his hobby. It appears from the looks of this building and the collection of motorcycles and cars in it that the dairy business was a big one and a profitable one. This is a 740 acre motorsports PARK, which in addition to the museum building, has a 2.4 mile Grand Prix, road...Jump to full entry
