Jun 7, 2020 - Last Day in Athens

Sun., June 7th – It was our last day to spend with the Kelley’s where we made some treasured memories to tuck in my journal….Jean’s incredible hospitality, Steve’s great fishing trips with Jim, cruising the Tennessee River in the pontoon boat, and just hanging out with good friends. We wrapped it all up with dinner at the Joe Wheeler State Park Lodge.

Jun 6, 2020 - Helen Keller Home

Sat., June 6th – In the neighboring town of Tuscumbia, Alabama, is the birthplace of Helen Keller. Jean, Carla, and I began our day touring the quaint little home of this amazing lady. Then donned in our masks, we treated ourselves to a pedicure and manicure in the local “Lovely Nails” salon. The rest of the afternoon was spent shopping…something none of us have done for the past 3 months. It was a bit odd to find the virus resulted in having all the fitting rooms closed in the department stores. After another “over the top” dinner at the...

Westward Bound Again

Jun 5, 2020 - The Tennessee River

Fri., June 5th – After waking at 5am to 2 hrs. of torrential downpours, Carla and I were able to get in a nice walk on their country road before hooking up the RVs and starting out for Athens. We met Jean (Bruce’s sister) and Jim at their condo on the Big Tennessee River. I have to call it the “Big” so it isn’t confused with our “Little T”. After Jean’s great BBQ dinner, we were on the river for a pontoon cruise across the mile wide span where Steve and Jim scouted out the spots they would fish in the morning.

May 6, 2013 - Animals Are Forming a Line In Couples

This is the third day of steady rain. Makes me want to sit by a fire place ,drink hot cocoa, and read a book. Instead we got up at 5:30 and met the gang at Cathy's house and headed to Talladega for the NASCAR race. It looked like it would be rained out but we left anyway. It's a 3-4 hour drive. The sun came out for a minute or two every hour and it was quite warm but when it slipped behind the clouds you needed a sweatshirt and jacket. We had walked through the vendors and entered drawings for generators , discounts on new trucks, picked up...

May 3, 2013 - The Last Stop

It was the most miles we have driven in one day since we leaving Rising Sun. Having arrived in Athens, Alabama we are in our last campground before the home stretch. The rain came down much of the drive yesterday and I was soaked by the time we were hitched up from both the rain and the cup of coffee I spilled all over my jeans. The most interesting thing I have to report is the last thirty miles there were dead chickens on the road. When I told this to the campground host he said they shoot them up with hormones and things. They are full...

Apr 2, 2008 - Athens,Al Walmart

A nice day traveling, not too long . Weather is kind of cloudy, rainy sure hope we don't run into the bad weather that's over in Oklahoma,Missouri area. Although we are seeing alot of flooding off the sides of the road. They say it's suppossed to get worse, so we plan on just heading north through Tennessee,Kentucky and up though Illinois to Wisconsin and back to Minnesota. I'll try to post pictures depending on power and internet availability but right now I am writing these in a word document so I don't forget too much. Our stop tonight...
