Apr 17, 2017 - Farewell to Lake Martin

Farewell Lake Martin Our two week visit at Wind Creek State Park in Alexander City has flown by! We leave on Tuesday headed to DeSoto State Park near Ft. Payne, Alabama. We have had a wonderful time here on the lake! Last Thursday, Steve spent all day in the ‘ham visiting friends. While he was in town, one of Steve’s high school classmates and her husband pulled into Wind Creek and ended up getting a spot three sites from us. Scout and I went over to their RV and chatted with Carol and Johnny for an hour or so. After Steve got back to Mo,...

Apr 13, 2017 - road runners

It’s Easter time! When we decided to stay at Wind Creek State Park here in Alexander City, we did so because it was fairly close to Birmingham and we didn’t really find any other campgrounds that were closer that we liked. Well, after a few days of driving back and forth on Hwy 280, I must say that as much as we love Wind Creek, we won’t use it again as a “home base” for Birmingham. Too long of a drive, even though we had a rental car to save on gas. On a good day on Hwy 280 (if there is such a good thing as a good day on 280) it takes us...

Apr 10, 2017 - fast boats and gossiping women

After the storms moved through on Wednesday evening, the rest of the night was uneventful. Thursday dawned clear but very windy. But there were still fishermen out on the lake – the water was white-capping! Those are some dedicated folks for sure! Steve’s cousin Ronnie and his wife DiAnne from Prattville were camping not too far from us, so while I was busy doing laundry ($1 wash and $1 dry) he visited them at their site and met their friends. While I was slaving away at the laundry, I met a nice lady who is a workcamper here at the park....

Apr 5, 2017 - Stormy Weather

Weathering the storms It has been an interesting few days since I last posted. On Sunday, we decided to take a ride over to Columbus, Georgia to check out the Riverwalk on the Chattahoochee River. Steve and I had ridden by there several years ago on our motorcycle when we were on our way to Macon to visit Adam, Laura and the kids, but we didn’t stop then to check it out. Since we were less than an hour’s drive away while in Auburn, we decided it was a good time to visit. Plus, Sunday was a beautiful day! So we loaded up Scout and headed...

Jul 19, 2013 - Wind Creek State Park

We headed out after work on Friday with the camper. First, we swung by the Alabama Nature Center to pick Gracen and Olivia up from camp. From there, we drove the windy two-lane roads up to Wind Creek State Park on Lake Martin. Wind Creek was popular this weekend. I checked in and requested a spot near the playground and away from the water. Apparently, that is an unusual request because there were several empty slots around us (B72). The location was perfect for us. The kids played on the playground as we setup. I made a decision not to...

Nov 6, 2011 - Walmart Aaah

South of Birmingham, past the city area, we found a Walmart close to the Hiway. There tire shop was closed for the day, but they let us stay overnight in their parking lot. We went to bed about 8pm because there was nothing to do and we were tired. Dad was up early the next morning to get the tired fixed. Then we headed southeast again.
