May 15, 2013 - Travel Day
BEGINNING MILEAGE 41372 Got on the road around 8:45 this morning traveling still on Hwy 19 then Hwy 82 traveling thru Georgia and into Alabama where the time changed and we lost an hour, we stopped for lunch in Union Springs at Hill Top Café where we had stopped before on a previous trip, it wasn’t so good this time so off the list it goes. Started looking for a campground around 4:00 and wasn’t having much luck we even drove off the road about 10 miles for one that showed up on the GPS, no luck with that another reason I should have...

May 9, 2013 - Montgomery AL
Went to the capital of Alabama today. What a surprise, it was a beautiful, easy to navigate city. Steve's main focus was the Hank Williams Museum in downtown Montgomery. It was incredible. They have a great amount of memories including hi s death car, the suit he was found in and so much more. You have got to go when in Montgomery. Then for this Yankee girl, what better place than the Confederate White House. Beautiful, historical home. Period furniture, paintings. I really liked it. All the people we met today were more than kind and very...

May 6, 2013 - Animals Are Forming a Line In Couples
This is the third day of steady rain. Makes me want to sit by a fire place ,drink hot cocoa, and read a book. Instead we got up at 5:30 and met the gang at Cathy's house and headed to Talladega for the NASCAR race. It looked like it would be rained out but we left anyway. It's a 3-4 hour drive. The sun came out for a minute or two every hour and it was quite warm but when it slipped behind the clouds you needed a sweatshirt and jacket. We had walked through the vendors and entered drawings for generators , discounts on new trucks, picked up...

May 6, 2013 - Preparations have begun...
Take off day is May 15...we are getting excited like we always get when taking off for a new adventure. We had the RV tires rotated and brakes adjusted last week and now it is time to get serious about prepping for the summer. Fred does most of the hard work getting ready for our long trips. Although I help pack, he does almost everything else: de- winterizing, cleaning out the water tanks, cleaning the outside of the RV, waxing the front of the RV, making sure everything on and in the rig is in good shape, etc. etc. etc. Looking forward to...

May 3, 2013 - The Last Stop
It was the most miles we have driven in one day since we leaving Rising Sun. Having arrived in Athens, Alabama we are in our last campground before the home stretch. The rain came down much of the drive yesterday and I was soaked by the time we were hitched up from both the rain and the cup of coffee I spilled all over my jeans. The most interesting thing I have to report is the last thirty miles there were dead chickens on the road. When I told this to the campground host he said they shoot them up with hormones and things. They are full...

May 3, 2013 - Leaving Mobile, Going to Miami
After just a few pills Rick was feeling much better so we decided to do a little sightseeing. I was intrigued by a long spit of land from the east side of Mobile Bay out into the Gulf. Along this spit were numerous bridges connecting the various islands and on the map it showed three locations for Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. So of course we had to go and see and of course we had to wear our refuge hats. We had a beautiful day for our drive, first driving south to Gulf Shores then west on the Gasque Highway, which in English is...

May 2, 2013 - Meandering around the South
Just to update since it's been a month now. After leaving Carrabelle, we went to visit JoAnn Dubrouillet in Panama City Beach for a few days, glad to see she's doing well. This was our last stop in Florida. One of the benefits of leaving Florida, we hope, will be a subsidence of problems for Boo Boo. Florida was hard on her. She developed chronic skin problems so bad we had to put an inflatable collar on her to stop her self-destructive behavior. Since we're heading west for an extended stay we couldn't leave without saying goodbye to Jim...

May 2, 2013 - Dothan, Alabama
We wish this was a longer stop for us, but we left Pensacola a day early. We determined that the drive from Pensacola to FT. Benning was way longer than a normal days drive for us, so we wanted to break it up. As it turns out that was a good decision on our part as the drive to Dothan was only 176 miles. Rebecca drove 160 of those miles. We pulled into the Pecan Point RV Park in the early afternoon. we got setup and unhitched quickly so we could get to the old downtown area of this nice little southern town. We heard from the RV park host...

May 2, 2013 - Finally moved on
Monday our guy came back to sort the electrics but no luck he was then convinced it was the batteries ( which were new last year) so we decided to take it into camping world Tuesday, after spending $210 they said they had fixed it, we were not convinced they had by their report, anyway we drove back to the campsite plugged it all in and guess what it still did not work right, well we were thoroughly p….d off by then, phoned them up then drove it back again, they just were not listening to us about what it was not doing. Anyway the upshot it...

Apr 30, 2013 - On the road again, summer travel starts tomorrow
Ok, the winter fun is over for another year and tomorrow we are on the road again, first stop New Orleans. First, I guess I should tell you what all we have been doing since my last post in February, if I can remember. Mardi Gras was early this year but the weather cooperated for the most part and the campground had another great float in the three of the parades. For those of you who don’t know, Mardi Gras is a big deal in this area, even the schools are closed the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday because of all the parades that...

Apr 22, 2013 - Birmingham AL
Quiet this time in Birmingham, no tornadoes this year! Not in this neighbourhood anyway. Even-though we arrived at the Lother during the working week, they immediately embraced us and welcomed us to their home. The height of our time together - besides morning coffees together and evenings out was Pippa's birthday! Jean and I made 4 pizzas and garlic fingers. A great cake was soon demolished by family and friends. We had chosen an apron we found in New Orleans and it was perfect - fit her personality to a "T". Pippa promised to visit us...
