Sep 18, 2012 - Wrexham visiting

Tuesday September 18 We began the morning preparing the trip journal before heading off to Tony and Leah’s home for a cup of tea and to pick up Robert for the day. It was yet another bright sunny day, interrupted by one or two quick showers. We drove into Wrexham town centre where Robert and Heather grew up, and after a few misses with the one-way streets, parked in the town centre near St. Giles church to begin our walkabout. For Robert and Heather, the stroll along the town was a time for reminiscing. They were constantly remarking on...

Sep 17, 2012 - Llechryd to Wrexham in North Wales

Monday September 17 It was time to leave South Wales and head north to Wrexham. After saying goodbye to Robert at the B&B (Julie had gone to work), we called at the bungalow to load Mum’s wheelchair into the car to take north with us. Heather’s cousin Tony has agreed to sell it for us on e-Bay. We said goodbye to Colin and Jeanette and left the key to ‘Sunfold’ with them before briefly stopping in Cardigan to see the estate agent, and buying petrol and picking up a picnic lunch. We drove up the A487 to New Quay for lunch, where we sat in...

May 19, 2012 - Chirk castle-something different

Girls day off the boat. Sherie drove us to Chirk castle and back through villages that were near but not seen from the boat. It was bit rainy but a fun day The owner of the castle had been a Director of the East India Company so there were lots of oriental artifacts and furniture. But the well preserved rooms and furniture from over the years (last changes to some rooms were in the 50's) weren't the highlights here. What made the difference to other places was the welcoming by people in costume. And who stayed in the times they were...

Europe 2012

May 17, 2012 - even more amazing

We all thought we were going on to the aqueduct near Llangollen (the Pontcysylite). But those of us who were out to walk across the tow path were informed by a local that we had it wrong. We were on the Chirk Aquaduct. He also told us why the viaduct was so much higher than us. He was obviously a canal man! He was very scathing; THe Viaduct was built long after the Aqueduct, the railway engineers had decided their crossing should be higher to show that railways were more important! But then next day (but not much further physically) we...

Oct 16, 2011 - Passing through Wrexham, Wales

During our cross Wales trip, since it was close to 6:00pm before we reached our next destination and since Sam would still have a very long drive back to Salford, we decided to give up on finding the Celtic cross an head home. Yup, now we were on the other side of the Welsh mountains BUT at least the car and myself where not hanging off the sides of those mountains. Everywere along this road were dead flattened Phesants. Live one in the feilds also. We travelled through a town called Wrexham before heading out of Wales and into England again.

Wales - Spring 2008

May 10, 2005 - Haggis Full Monty UK Tour Day 2

We saw the Roman Baths this morning. They are beautiful, I just wished that they were able to be used. Into Wales for a look at Chepstow Castle. It was built to stop the Pommy hoards, it didn't work. Its a great looking castle, as you will find out during my holiday, I'm a fan of castles and gargoyles. A crazy aqua duct built over a valley for river boats to cross. Lovely green surrounds with coos and rabbits below. Our hostel for the night was in llangollen in northern Wales. The farmhouse was 250 years old and there was a neat little...

Jul 24, 2004 - Tatton Park Flower Show

Early this morning Kirsty and I left Hallthwaites to visit the Tatton Park Flower Show, this is held close to Knutsford which is quite close to Manchester just off the M6. We got there just prior to opening time of 10.00 am and were able to visit all the stands, pavillions etc. with relative ease. There were 4 large pavillions, the RHS one, the Interflora Demonstration one, the Flower Clubs of England one, and another, then there were all the gardens outside, lots of nurseries, and stands selling general gardening innovations, and a large...
