Jun 4, 2010 - Nepal Is Calling, The Children Are Shouting!!!

Well… what can I say…. Only a month to go before I am off again to my beloved children and Nepal. For weeks now the time has dragged and all of a sudden it is rushing past. As most of you know I have been busy fund-raising, giving talks to groups, car boot sales... when it isn’t raining... a house to house collection next week, then a collection outside ASDA in Dundee. The highlight of course is the Victorian Market in our Village on the 4th July. I love the Victorian Market, I didn’t make much money last year, but it was fun and I think...

Jan 20, 2010 - Namaste

A Happy New year one and all, like everyone else, I have been busy.. in the kitchen, cooking, cleaning and entertaining, now it's back to normal. In the last two weeks I have been busy making a slide show about the children. Last week I gave a talk to the Friocheim hill walking club and last night to the Women's Rural Institute. I have to say that in spite of being very nervous.. once I started talking about the children I had no difficulty, it was no problem. I need to say a big thank you to both groups, they gave me such a confidence...

Nov 18, 2009 - home after a tearful goodbye...

Hello again, Well that's me home, it's good to be back and see my family and friends, although I have to say I haven't seen may of them yet... I was exhausted when I returned, and of course I was Lorne's birthday(that's my son) a few days after I got back, now I am in Glasgow and going to Ayrshire today to see family there and visit my old school. I am hoping they will agree to organising a charity event to raise much needed funds for the children. My last few days in Pokhara were both very happy and very sad, leaving my children was one of...

Oct 29, 2009 - so much to tell, so little time!!

Namaste everyone, First of all, I met a group of Scottish travellers in Pokhara, thanks to Bruce Anderson who had read an article about me in the Deeside Piper, it was really fun to be with this group who were from Cults (near Aberdeen)I spent a morning with them, having coffee and telling them about my children and our hopes for the future. A little bit of lunch aand more talk about the children... obsessive? probably.. but I prefer the word enthusiastic and in love with my children. Now about my trip to Mardi,it seems a long time ago...

Oct 21, 2009 - Brilliant happy days

The last few days have been busy, exciting, wonderfully happy and very fruitful. If you remember I mentioned a young German guy while trekking, we became friends and got him booked in the same hotel as Eric and I at a special rate. He donated money to help with buying the lighting system and went off to Chitwan the National Park for a few days. While there he met a group of people who were travelling round the world, told them about us and what we were doing, they said they would like to meet us and visit the children, but you know what it...

Oct 15, 2009 - Awesome Views, Amazing Forests And Aching Legs

Namaste everyone, We have just returned from trekking, what a wonderful experience... it was really hard; steep climbs and even more difficult and scary coming down. It rained for the first three days, really heavy rain, we could have been at home, not cold, but we were soaked to the skin every day and ended up on the fourth day with no dry clothes, soaking wet,and smelly socks and boots. Picking leeches off our bodies was the worst part, but it was amazing how blasé we got about that. We wouldn’t have missed it for all the tea in china....

Sep 19, 2009 - Ice Cream is Cold

Friday was the last school day for the children for about a month, this for the annual festival of Dashain, which is similar in many ways to our New Year, parties, lots of food and of course before that... cleaning... getting all the old years dirt before the New one. It is a very happy time, everyone loves it and it is very family oriented. The children get new clothes, sweets and lots of singing and dancing. On Friday on the way home from school, I bought some ice lollies and ice cream as a special treat. Buying the ice cream alone was...

Hello everyone, sorry it’s taken me so long to send this update!! I had a severe case of what the doctor called “bacterial diarrhea”, it was really bad, passing blood... Sep 3, 2009 - The Real Nepal

Hello every one, I am now back in Pokhara after spending four days trekking. We went up to collect three girls who were desperately needing our help. We left Pokhara and travelled by bus to Tulsipur, the journey was long and hard, it was a very bumpy road and now I have a little understanding of what it feels like to be a boxer.... The bus ran out of petrol and we were stuck there for over an hour,,, the funny thing was the driver just lay down and went to sleep... no explanation of what had happened,,, he just slept. Every village we...
