Eilean Donan, was originally built in the mid-1200’s and sits on the strategic point where three sea lochs meet; Loch Long, Loch Duich and Loch Alsh. It had a great defensive position being on a small island of rock just off the shore. As you may recall, there were a series of four Jacobite Risings in which the Scottish Clans banded together to try to repulse the English from their lands. Borchs are a housing structure unique to Scotland and primarily found on the Isle of Skye. They are massive, round structures built around 2,000 years ago when the ancient Celts inhabited the area. They had a double wall that was hollow with stairs going between the different levels. They usually had multiple floors. The wall was made of stone and the roof was woven thatch. Apr 5, 2008 - Spectacular Scotland
After our disappointing start to Scotland, I can say that it has become my personal favourite place of our holiday so far. What a stunningly beautiful, haunting and wild place. It started with our commencing our journey through the highlands, with snow dusted capped mountains in the distance, green valleys remote farmhouses at the base of the hills. Every time we "oohed and aahed" at the scenery, and I took another photo, we would turn the corner and there would be a more spectacular scene. Just fabulous. There were even two wild deer just...
