Jul 31, 2012 - Last Day July 31 Invergarry to Glasgow
Our last day was spent riding the rails from the highlands of Scotland all the way in to Glasgow-city of 2 million where we catch our plane early tomorrow morning. We took a bus to the closest train station fifteen minutes away to find that this northerly station was not manned by anyone. A very helpful restauranteur gave us a coffee and washroom at his station restaurant even though it was closed and we had a great conversation while we waited for the train. Once on the Spean Bridge train, we headed through incredible scenic lush green...

25th April 2012 (Bed No 23) What a great sleep, we were refreshed and ready to go, Glasgow here we come. As per usual our first stop once in town, was the information centre. The weather was not kind to us today. The skies opened up and there was no end in sight. Our el cheapo umbrellas (what do you expect from a £1 shop) could not handle the wind so we looked around and bought another one, £15 should do the trick! A tour around the Glasgow City Chambers sounded like a good idea to get us out of the rain. Just made it, the tour guide had...

He couldn’t get back to sleep so he headed off for shave, Cynthea was up and about when he got back to the room. He was down at breakfast by 8.30, watching the snow falling as he had breakfast. Lovely, we have to be out in that later. We get to use the Skype phone to call...

Mar 25, 2012 - Glasgow & Loch Lomond National Park, Scotland
With spring starting to show its face Susan and I decided to plan a trip back to one of our favorite places we've been in our travels, SCOTLAND! We booked the dogs at the kennel, and made our way north to the city of Glasgow. The drive up through the rolling hills of northern England was beautiful and we were graced with the nicest weather we have had in months. So with 20+C shinning down on us thoroughly enjoyed the 3 1/2 trek and checked in at our hotel in downtown Glasgow. Once we were situated we cab'd to center of town and scoped out...

Jan 12, 2012 - Centre parcs Whinfell Forsest
Three weeks into our time in England, we were staring down the barrel of another 2 weeks being couped up at home with active kids needing to let off some steam. They had been watching far too much TV and playing incessantly on their iPods, so we decided we needed to get away and unplug. The atmosphere at home was also a bit fraught - Jason's dad had been deteriorating before our eyes while his mum was doing the best she could to make him comfortable while falling to pieces herself. Add to this an additional family member stumbling in drunk...

We arrived in Glasgow on Sunday at noon. The weather was around 15 degrees and it had ben raining but had stopped for our arrival. A driver was waiting for us to drive us to our beautiful accomodation. In a previous life our accomodation had been a brothel but now it is a very fashionable hotel. We have travelled on the hop on hop off bus - the pass is for two days. A great way to get around. We visited the Riverside Museum which displays transport of the past. There were lots of exhibits which we could remember. Made us feel our age!!...

Oct 11, 2011 - Exploring the Land of the Scots and the Green Isle of Guinness
Having left the beauty of the Lakes District we crossed the (invisible) border into Scotland, excited to be entering yet another country with more friends to visit! The first destination was Glasgow where Melbourne friends Nealy and Joff had made their (temporary) home over the past year. The following few days were spent exploring Glasgow and surrounds – Macintosh tearooms, Kelvin Grove Park and museum, live music at local bars and plenty of local cuisine (hot smoked salmon, smoked mussels and Cullen Skink (fish chowder)…oh and Rich...

Today we left Skye and headed south to Fort William to see the Vale of Weeping at glencoe, this is the site of the famous massacre by the Campbell clan, today some people in Scotland still do not eat Campbell's soup because of this massacre. Then on through Scotland's beautiful scenery to the banks of Lock Lomond, where on these bonny bonny banks we caught a boat down the lock. What i can not get over is the history of this country, knew i should have listen a little more when told to.

Aug 24, 2011 - Stirling
Left Glasgow and headed east to Stirling. Enjoyed fantastic 3 hours exploring Stirling Castle perched high on the hill above the town. We joined a guided walking tour and heard the gruesome tales of a Castle that endured many terrible wars by the likes of Robert the Bruce and William Wallace and others who all tried to take control. The castle was stunningly restored and had beautiful gardens, great hall, chapel and wow fantastic palace with displays and characters all in costume ready to retell stories from the past. We then drove onto...

Aug 2, 2011 - Glasgow
We were up and had breakfast this morning. Nan called the Waverley - a ship on the Clyde - to book a sailing tomorrow from Largs to Loch Fyne. We then set off to Glasgow where Nan had a meeting. It was raining, but the forecast for Glasgow was better, however when we got there it was still raining. We went round to a mall where Nan left us for her meeting. We looked around then walked down to another mall which neither of us had been in before. It was a small mall with quite select stores. We then went towards the river, passing through...
