May 13, 2011 - Balmoral Castle and Chicken Coop

After our 8 hour hike on Thursday we took it easy on Friday. We needed to spend some time in the morning sorting through some stuff with Hertz and Visa as we had a small "parking lot" accident. We're interested in seeing if it really is worthwhile using a Visa card to cover CDW insurance or whether you should pay the high CDW charges the rental car companies charge. We bagged a Munro today...Lochnagar. A Munro is a mountain in Scotland with a height over 3,000 ft (914.4 m). They are named after Sir Hugh Munro who produced the first list of such hills, known as Munros Tables, in 1891. There are 283 Munros. The most well known Munro is Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles, with an altitude of 1,344 metres (4,409 ft). May 11, 2011 - Ballater, Scotland

We are staying for a week in Ballater Scotland at the Hilton Craigendarroch. We have been very busy as we have linked up with Irmgard (Rita's sister) and her husband, Neil. We are enjoying Scotland quite a bit. Day one...long walk up and over a few hills. Day two...drive through the countryside finding Neil's ancestral home in Leslie and onward to Huntly Castle and even a stop at a shortbread factory...WOW! Then dinner at the local pub.
