Although the weather wasn't very good we headed south this time from Tiverton. Our first stop was in the small town of Honiton where we visited the small local museum. Honiton is famous for lace. Honiton lace is a very fine hand bobbin lace. It was a cottage industry in the 17th century with the majority of lace being made in the homes of the workers, who were often the wives of poorly paid labourers and fishermen. Queen Victoria had her wedding dress made of Honiton lace. As Heather can make bobbin lace (not very well) she found the museum...
