Friday 19th April Went to the Outward Bound School at Eskdale. I was there for a month in February 1961. They had got out the yearbook in which I attended and showed me our team leaders report on the team as well as a photo of our patrol. The instructors/staff were extremely welcoming and made it a pleasant visit. After wandering around a bit I actually remembered where I had slept while there, in the dormitory block in the upper level of the Stable Block. Apr 18, 2013 - A few days in the Lake District

Wednesday 17th April Finally arrived in the Lake District after fighting with our GPS on the way. We stopped in a place called Colsterworth in Linconsire on the way up so Gill could visit a friend in a village called North Kyme. We stayed in a Travelodge motel which coexisted with a bunch of fast food joints just off of the A1 motorway. Have uploaded a photo. Jul 8, 2012 - Final exploration day in the Lake District

We woke to grey skies again. We decided to drive the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes to West Water. These passes are extremely interesting to drive. Narrow and single track, in places 25% plus gradients, plenty of bends and wandering sheep. However there are some some spetacular views over some wild and rugged country. It was a pity the weather wasn't better. Crossing the Hardknott pass we discovered the remains of an old Roman fort which had commanding views of the Eskdale Valley.
