Sep 16, 2012 - Llechryd and Cardigan area

Sunday September 16 After our breakfast, we spent some time checking e-mails and generally catching up. Julie offered to do a small load of laundry for us which was very convenient. When the washing was done, we took the load to the Laundrette in Newcastle Emlyn to dry the clothes. Following this somewhat industrious morning, we drove to the coast to Aberporth, where we were very lucky to see bottle-nosed dolphins swimming out in the bay. They were a bit far out from sore for a photograph to do any justice, but they were fun to spot and it...

Saturday September 15 We began the day with breakfast at 8:00 a.m. and spent some time in the B&B catching up on e-mail and writing the travel diary. Julie (our B&B proprietor) made us an extra pot of coffee and lit a log fire in the wood stove for us, making it rather cosy in the sitting room. The weather is certainly showing the beginning of autumn with mornings that are clear and somewhat chilly. We have not seen frost yet, but it would not surprise us if we did. When we finally left the B&B, we drove to ‘Sunfold’ (the bungalow) and...

Friday September 14 After a hearty full Welsh breakfast (we declined the black pudding), we headed into Cardigan to visit the bank, meet with the estate agent regarding the sale of ‘Sunfold’. By mid-morning we were finished in town and off to see Colin and Jeanette our good friends and ‘Sunfold’ neighbours who very kindly also keep an eye on the place for us. We enjoyed a morning coffee and catching up on local news. It is hard to believe that it has been over a year since we last visited; it seems like last week! For lunch, we dropped...

Apr 26, 2008 - Llechryd

Today was ‘Barley Saturday’ (the annual spring horse fair) in Llechryd, and we took Mum out in her wheel chair to watch the parade of horses, tractors and old cars through the centre of Cardigan. It was the first time that Mum had been out of the Lodge grounds since last year. The weather was cooperative; not too hot and it turned sunny towards the end of the parade. In the evening we went out for dinner with Andrina at La Calabria Restaurant near Newcastle Emlyn; our last meal together in Wales as she and Rob move to Northamptonshire on...

Wales - Spring 2008

Apr 7, 2008 - Llechryd

Today was Gary’s birthday, and when we visited Brondesbury Lodge (Menna’s nursing home), many of the staff wished him Happy Birthday – Menna had told everyone! Menna appears to be doing very well, and although some of the residents that we knew were no longer there, not many of the staff have changed and it seemed like we had last visited just a few weeks ago. Back in the village, Andrina and Rob (our friends a few doors down the road) completed the sale of their B&B and we all celebrated with a couple of glasses of wine and a trip to a...
