We had left Edinburgh in the rain and headed south to the Lake District. We had booked to spend 10 days in the north lakes and then move for a week near Windermere and explore the southern lakes. Before we left Edinburgh we checked with the campground near Penrith that everything was OK in their area as we had heard on the news about flooding in Cumbria due to the amount of rain. Everything was OK. Our first exploration day was to Ullswater the second largest lake in the Lake District. The lake is eight miles long with a serpentine shape....

Jun 16, 2012 - Rain in the Lake District
We awoke to find the stream level higher but not overflowing. However, it continued to rain all day until we got to our next cg about 4:30. That meant our 2 hour boat cruise on England's most beautiful lake, the Ullswater, was a very disappointing event. Wind and rain kept us inside the boat with steamy windows. The drive through the beautiful Lake District scenery was also spoiled by the rain. Water covered parts of the narrow roads.
