Sep 25, 2013 - Last days in UK.....

Tuesday was a lovely sunny day, for Angela's 65th birthday. She received 3 bunches of flowers, and 22 cards.... We took her back to Origins restaurant at The White Lion in Great Missenden for a tapas lunch. It was delicious again, with great service at a great venue. It was lovely sitting outside in the sun. David was extra pleased as he got the frisbee out of the tree which he was unsuccessful at 4 weeks before. Taking a ball of string and the digging tool from Ashridge Forest worked.... The frisbee is now coming home with us. On our way...

Sep 18, 2013 - back in Dunstable

We headed south back to Dunstable today - this is getting back a night earlier than planned, but easier with no credit card. We didn't have many stops along the way, as we've all almost done enough driving lately, and the weather was crappy. We also wanted to get there to collect the temporary credit card which is due to be delivered tomorrow. We drove around Manchester to appease their fan in our back seat, but I suspect it was more of a tease.... We did stop in Stoke-on-Trent and had a late lunch at the Royal Doulton shop. I'd forgotten...

Sep 6, 2013 - back to the UK

Today we returned to the UK . It was a multi-modal journey, travelling via TGV leaving Marne le Vassey Station (we also caught a taxi to the train station, where a french woman helped me get our train ticket from the machine as it was prebooked in Canberra). We travelled on this train to Lille, where we changed train to Calais Ville. Here we caught a bus to the port, then caught a P&O ferry to Dover. Unfortunately it was too wet and cloudy to clearly see the white cliffs of Dover.... But it was a very calm crossing. After a lengthy wait, a...

Aug 30, 2013 - Long boats and visiting John

This morning Don was our tour guide and took us to Stoke Bruerne to see the canal museum. There are 7 locks on the Grand Canal here. First we went on a long boat ride including into the entry of the nearby Blisworth Tunnel. When we got back we helped a family take there long boat through the first lock (of 7 at this location). The kids think we need to include a long boat trip as part of our next holiday to the UK! In the afternoon we visited John in the village. David and Aanya took his dog Amy for a walk, and also helped in the garden -...

Aug 29, 2013 - A day in Granddad Graham's footsteps

We decided to explore a few local sights today, including some of Granddad Graham's past haunts. First stop was his old school at Great Gaddesden, and the adjacent church. We even found the kneeler in memory of Les and Betty. Then we had lunch at the Bridgewater Arms at Little Gaddesden. Before heading to Berkhampstead where we enjoyed the Canal Fields playground and watched narrow boats go past. Next stop was Winchmore Hill and the Fagnell Farm cottages. On the way home we found some stocks and a windmill.

Aug 27, 2013 - In the UK

We arrived in the UK all ok on Monday. We flew to Singapore, then had a shower and changed clothes before getting on our long flight. We all slept a bit on the flight and arrived to be met by Angela. The kids decided it was a long way!! It was a Bank Holiday, so was a quick trip on the M25. Once in Dunstable we settled in, then checked out the local playground with Don. We all had a quiet day, but Aanya was the only person in the house who didn't have an afternoon nap....... She got busy and even did some craft with Angela. The kids think...
