Once we had managed to arrange staff cover for the shop for Christmas Day and Boxing Day we readily accepted the invite from Lord and Lady Clooney of Lamplugh to spend Christmas at their wonderful retreat in the Lake District. Jen worked the morning Christmas Eve shift then set off with Karen and Melanie - I worked the afternoon shift then drove up with the Santa-van full of presents that were unloaded after Mel went to bed. May 23, 2004 - Oban to Kirksanton

This morning we left Oban and drove to Loch Lomond. Passing down Loch Lomond, we called into a little village called Luss, situated on the shores of Loch Lomond, about halfway down. It was a fabulous little village, full of stone houses with beautiful gardens. It was a trifle cold, but people were swimming in the Loch - those Scots are a hardy bunch. At least the sun was out. Heading down the Loch, we arrived at the southern end where the Steamer leaves from. The scenery was beautiful, quite similar to NZ but the mountains are not as high....
