Feb 28, 2019 - Still here

Tony gets updates by email from the Canal & River Trust and the Environment Authority - he received one last night informing us that the lock we have been waiting on to open on 1st March will now not be opening until 3rd March due to them finding some more work to do. So we decided to stay here another night and press on tomorrow. Hoping they don't decide to charge us an extra day's licence fee!! As we walked into Maidenhead yesterday we decided to walk on the Taplow side of the river back up to Boulters lock today. There is a little...

Feb 27, 2019 - Maidenhead/Taplow

We are moored on the Taplow side of the River today which is Buckinghamshire and we walked into Maidenhead which is in Berkshire. This lovely house is right on the edge of the river but,as you can see it is next to the railway line, and the trains are running very frequently. We are just down from this bridge called the Sounding Arch. built by Brunel in 1838. Everyone expected it to fall down because it is so flat. Friday 12th June. As you probably have guessed by now we are heading homewards. Although its three weeks early we have had a wonderful time and would not have missed it for the world but the cold and wet of the last few weeks has dampened our spirit a little and made us more than a little homesick for the family. We rang the ferry company who were more than happy to change our ticket, to our amazement, at no extra cost. We were due at Dunkerque at 9.00am for a 10.00 ferry so had breakfast at 7.30 and left at 8.00 for the 45 minute drive....

Feb 26, 2009 - Preparation

Final preparations underway for the big adventure. With less than 36 hours to take off we still have not started packing as visitor 156 calls to wish us luck. The dustman must think we are both alkies!!! At least the repainting of the rear end is complete although the tasteful rearranging of the car paneling cannot be hidden completely.
