Nov 19, 2010 - Exit the UK
My final week of work ended with a sweet lunch at the local café. I was impressed that we had our own section downstairs and was delivered a lovely gingerbread latté. With my bags packed and farewells given to the stables I headed Southbound. It was lovely to be greeted my Irene in Derby. First stop was a park which was rather attractive with still a few coloured leaves remaining. I was amazed to see Irene’s work at Rolls Royce. We only saw one of the three sights but this one alone covered three streets. I have seen a great many churches...

Aug 7, 2006 - Escape from Derby
Hey everyone, As you might have guessed from the title, we have left Derby, in fact almost a week ago already. The last few days in England were a bit of a blur, and not just because of the alcohol. So in case anyone did forget, here are a few photos from our night out in Derby to say farewell to all the friends we have made over the past four years. The house sale has completed, and at this moment all our worldly possessions are getting tossed around the north Atlantic on a leaky cargo ship, destined, no doubt, to arrive in many more...

May 22, 2006 - Matlock Bath
Up a bit later than planned due to the later night. Made our way to Mrable arch to collect the car. Thought we were getting a 2 door 1.2 ltr beast, ended up with a 4 door 1.6 Astra which was a nice change. The drive out of town was suprisingly uneventful. It took about one and a half hours to drive to Cambridge. We stopped in a carpark nearby and walked into town. Took a few pics before sitting down to a massive Steak and Ale pie with chips. We were bothing starving due to a small breakfast and big drive. Decided to drive to a place called...

Apr 29, 2006 - Hiking in the Peaks District
We decided that the first bank holiday weekend would be a good time to get out of London and go hiking in the Peaks district. Starting from Matlock Bath, we hiked 47km over two days, finishing off in Castleton. Compared to hiking in New Zealand, hiking in this part of the UK was a lot less hilly, meaning that you could cover a great deal more ground in a day. All the same, 27 KM on the second day was quite a long haul. Although the Peaks District is a national park, it was funny that it had farms, villages and highways running through it....

Sep 19, 2004 - Nottingham
Visited Nottingham castle, home of Robin Hood. The original castle was destroyed by fire so the one you see isn't very old by English standards. Nice city, very pretty town square. A lot of Robin Hood themes as you would expect. History still hasn't made up its mind that Robin even lived. Who cares? I like the movies.
