Sep 24, 2012 - And it’s goodnight from me, and it’s goodnight from him

24 Sept 2012 Raining when we woke and it just kept on raining. We left Old Tom’s about 9:30 and headed slowly in the direction of Aylesbury. The roads here are the gutters, so water was pooled half over the roads in many places – nowhere else for it to go. We found a phone carrier and were able to book our B&B for the night. Still raining! We found a Services area and went in for a Costa (you remember, the only good coffee in the UK). And there is free Wifi so I researched places in Aylesbury for people who wish to trace their convict...

Oct 27, 2011 - Tiggywinkles Hedgehog Hospital and Wendover Woods

After breakfast we headed out, and unfortunately the skies were dark and overcast. It had been raining during the night, so everywhere was a bit damp. We went first to St Tiggywinkles Hedgehog Hospital, it was only about 15 minutes drive away in a little place called Haddenham. Oct 26, 2011 - Waddesdon Manor

We went for breakfast again just before it finished at 9:30. We all had pretty much the same as yesterday. Reuben wrote his diary when we got back for a little while and we left the hotel at about 10:30. We drove to Aylesbury and found the village where Waddesdon Manor was quite easily. There are big, imposing iron gates at the entrance and a magnificient driveway which goes a really long way through beautiful countryside until you get to the manor. We were directed to the parking area, and parked by some trees. There were lots and lots of...

Oct 25, 2011 - Roald Dahl Day

We all had a reasonably good night's sleep and so woke up feeling quite refreshed and ready for the day ahead. We had a relaxed start to the day, and went down for breakfast at 9:30 - the latest time we could do this. Breakfast was quite nice - a buffet with the usual hot options, a selection of fruit and limited selection of bread. I had scrambled egg and fresh fruit salad. Reuben really surprised us - he ate a bowl of cereal, 2 slices of bread with Nutella and a muffin - wow! After breakfast we went back to the room, got ready and left...
