Mar 1, 2014 - Coastal Caravan Tour - Sharjah

First stop on our Tour was Sharjah. We stopped at the Maritime museum & a traditional Arabic Souk, Al Arsa. I enjoyed the museum, but was disappointed in the Souk. Us 5 on the tour were the only ones there and it got annoying them trying to sell us everything. On the bright side, Mother's Day shopping is finished!

Dec 29, 2013 - Sharjah, UAE

Sharjah is the third largest and most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, forming part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area. It is located along the northern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula. The city is known as a center for culture, which is why we stayed overnight on our way north to celebrate the New Year at the new Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Kaimah. HILTON SHARJAH If you visit Sharjah, the Hilton Sharjah is a perfect place to stay. It is not only in the middle of the city, it is located on the banks of the...

Nov 12, 2010 - Back to Sharjah

Last morning together.  Nice breakfast with lots of tittering over the fact that the honey put out in individual packets was actually the stiffer than taffy.  We watched Mike doggedly get it wrapped around his knife, and then have to use his fork to scrape it off the knife in one solid lump onto the bread.  Kate just bit some off her knife directly, but they both looked rather like dogs eating peanut butter once it came to chewing on it.  Good start to the day. We loaded up early so that we could be at the border before it got too busy....

Nov 7, 2010 - Sharjah to Oman

In the morning, Dave, Mike and I met up with our guide Mohammed, and our additional passenger Caroline for our departure.  We were taking a four-wheel drive from Sharjah through the rest of the Emirates on the way to the border crossing to Oman, and then on to Khasab, where we'd meet the part of our tour who were coming up from the desert tour inn the lower part of Oman, and stay the night. Along the way, we saw huge cities in the desert under construction.  They looked a bit eery since they were deserted and the cranes were stilled because...

Dec 29, 2009 - Desert of Dubai

Today we will go for a real exercursion. A desert safari. Finally to meet the locals. After a hour fast drive on a 4 lanes highway (without potholes or cars), we come to the meeting point, where of course some tourists shops are located, where 50 others 4wd are meeting.. and jointly we enter into the desert. Sand dunes, rally driving until we are sick in our stomach, sunset, running through the sand, and then the camp. We ride a camel held by a real emirate looking shepherd, who turned out to be from Pakistan.. .just like the henna...

Jun 17, 2007 - Sharjah (EMIRATOS ARABES UNIDOS)
