Jul 28, 2017 - Kisoro to Eagles Nest Lodge, Lake Mburo National Park

Friday 28th July 2017 Kisoro to Eagles Nest Lodge, Lake Mburo National Park After breakfast today, we set off at about 8:00am from the Travellers Rest Hotel in Kisoro and drove in a northeasterly direction along good roads through absolutely spectacular mountain country with steep sided hills entirely cultivated with every type of crop. We drove through many small towns and a couple of very large towns like Kabale (population 600,000) which is where you turn south to go into Rwanda, until we reached Mbarara (population 1 million) where we...

Nov 21, 2014 - 19 November - Lake Mburo

Today we drove to Lake Mburo National Park, a lovely campsite on the edge of the lake with warthogs roaming through the camp and hippos snorting away in the water. Once we got our tents up we went out with a ranger for a walking tour. We saw lots of buffalo, impala etc, plus lots of birds. 3 of us also arranged for an evening game drive and were picked up at 8pm and delivered back around 11pm. We saw lots of rhinos, impala, bush buck, water buck, buffalos, bush babies, rabbits but the lions and leopards eluded us this time. Another early...

Oct 5, 2011 - Lake Bonyonyi to Lake Mburo

We spent the last night here in a twin cottage however the power was out all night so no advantage of our own hot shower, power to charge our camera batteries or lights to pack by.  At least we didn't have to get up earlier to take down a tent in the dark and we sleep well. Breakfast at six again for early departure at seven. Lush rainforest landscapes with wild papyrus growing gave way to dryer foothills and acacia woodlands. Small villages with friendly locals going about their daily duties peppered the roadsides. A few children obviously...

Nov 14, 2009 - Driving to Lake Mburo, Uganda

Another early morning as I took my packed breaky lunch and out for the game drive by 6am. My rash got better by the oils from last night, however, I now have TONS of clusters of huge mosquito bites all over my body...I don't know where they came from!! It must have gotten caught in the netting. Another beautiful warm morning and sunrise!! The last morning game drive we saw the normal: buffalo, kob, elephants, waterbuck, etc. After the game drive we left the park...so sad! We were headed for Lake Mbaro. It would take approx 4 hours to get...

Jul 21, 2009 - Back in the saddle again

We were officially back on safari again at 8am. This was a slightly larger safari vehicle and we were all thrilled that this one also had working seatbelts. The Ugandan countryside was much greener than most areas we traveled through in Kenya and Tanzania, at least for the morning. There was lots of agricultural land and, therefore, lots of roadside vegetable stands. The roadway was mostly asphalt but with some bad potholes and some very dusty construction areas. About 1pm we stopped at a swamp, which turned out to be one of the richest...

Mar 25, 2008 - Mbura National Park

Having found out last thing last night that Peace, our rep, would be with us at 8am I made sure I got up with lots of time to slowly get ready! Fortunately when I awoke I was feeling much better and was even looking forward to some breakfast! Breakfast took a long time to come but Peace was late anyway so that was ok. By nearly 10am though we were getting annoyed as she still wasn’t there…when she did arrive just after 10am she said the desk had told us the wrong time…very annoying but didn’t really surprise us!! Anyway we finally got...

Bridget's Trip!

Aug 26, 2006 - Rest Day

We arrived around 3pm at our resort campground on the shores of lake Bunyonyi. There was an option to upgrade to a treehouse for $5 per night. Most people took that option but when we arrived there'd been a double booking so our names had to go into hats to find out who didn't get a treehouse, well me and Kelly were one set but we still ended up with a nice room overlooking the lake. I was on food prep so my group helped Peter (the cook) get lunch ready. Ate lunch spend an hour online and went to relax in my room. I pased out for about 3...

My World Odyssey

Feb 24, 2006 - Mburu Nat'l Park- Uganda

Mburu Nat'l. Park We arrive in Mburu in the late afternoon and go on a two hour walking safari, a totally different game viewing experience. Our guide (with rifle for animal safety this time) gives a lone water buffalo a wide berth. We see zebras for the first time, elans and many others. Back at the campsite we decide to go for an early night. Geoff seems restless and feels bites on his body. We turn on the light and there are litteraly thousands of ants in the tent, on the sleeping bags, on our clothes, everywhere! We jump out and see...
