Apr 6, 2005 - The splendour of Sumela...from afar
Depart: Refahıye, Turkey Arrive: Sumela, Turkey Overnight: Sumela Camping - We had an early start and made slowısh progress along the mountaın roads. Our target was to hıt the Sumela monastery by 3:30 just before closıng tıme at 5pm so we could vısıt ıt. Mak and Russ decıded to take a scenıc short cut though a lower grade road but halfway down decıded that the roads were too bad for us to contınue so we had to reverse back to the nearest town and turn around. Apr 3, 2005 - Chillin'
Still chillin' like a villain in Trabzon! Today we went on a lıttle trip to Maçka for some wicked Fish!! I've been here for just over a week and I already feel like I'm living here instead of just visiting. It's also been a much different experience this time. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I'm staying in my sisters apartment in the city, with all of the comforts of home and away from the family in the village. Mar 28, 2005 - Laz Trabzon
I've been in Trabzon since the evening of the 25th. For those of you who don't know, my sister Meryem (six years my senior) finished her BA degree in French in '98 and then moved to Trabzon, Turkey, my Dads hometown, to teach English. She got married two and half years ago and had a little boy, Arifcan, a year and a half ago. I'm not a big fan of kids, especially when I have to take care of them but Arifcan is seriously the BEST child I have ever seen. He's only 18 months and he already has an entire personality of his own!! He's well...Jump to full entry
