Oct 9, 2010 - Day 9 Trabazon, Turkey

This city looks very poor. Seems a lot of buildings are unfinished or partly abandoned.I walked down to the shopping area. Lots of mens stores but not many women. ost older wonen wear hear scarbes. A lot of men smoke. Some horn honking. Some streets and all sidewalks are cobblestone. Steep hill streets. People don`t look happy. Some men walk arm in arm.

Dec 29, 2007 - Trabzon (antiguo Trebizond)

Jul 20, 2007 - Too relaxed to bother...

Hey all, Well... finally getting around to writing about being in Turkey. Careful though, any English majors that read this will risk their head exploding from spelling mistakes, this is a Turkish version of Word, so NO SPELLCHECK, AAAAAAHHHHH!!! Funny... first couple of days I was getting up at 5 am, about the same time as my dad, which NEVER haapened... I bet he thinks it's because I'm so anxious to work on the house, and that I have matured into the hardworking, blue collar souled son he'd always wanted, but it's actually because of the...

Apr 16, 2006 - trabzon

dear nader, this place is smart! everyone is all jetset & looking like they're going out in taksim on a saturday night. plus, i can blend in here! not because i appear jetset, i'm still as big of a schlepp as ever, but because i can play up my high cheek bones, look really stern & pass for russian. why? because there's a bit of a russian dispora here. to practice fitting in, i watch moscow tv in my hotel room. sometimes the news, soemtimes bad flics, but mostly surreal cartoons. sometimes abstract, like those on an aeroflot flight, & always...

Jul 10, 2005 - Call me Karim

Hi all, About three years ago, I found out that my entire life up to that point had been a lie. It turned out that my parents had kept a vital piece of information from me regarding my identity. It was the very marker from which I identified myself with society...the monogram with which I sealed all correspondence to the governor...the...the reason everybody made fun of me in Elementary school...this piece of information was regarding my first name. No... my parents did not do this out of spite nor bitter anger...no no...they did this...

Apr 10, 2005 - Teaching at last

I'm finally in the classroom! I'm teaching English classes at the same school my sister used work for. Originally I thought I'd teach classes and get paid to do it, but the timing of my visit and the class schedule didn't work out and I also realized...I'm on vacation, I don't want to actually take responsibility for anything! :) The school is called "The Grand Basic School of English", they offer night and weekend classes during the school semester and daytime classes during the summer. The students are primarily university students and...

Apr 7, 2005 - An extra nıght ın Turkey

- So we arrıved back ın Trabzon around 7ısh and checked out a few hotels around the embassy and fınally settled on one. A few of us headed down to the bar for what turned out to be an extortıonately expensıve beer. Then we went down the road to get some dınner. We spotted Mak and Russ ın the restaurant so we joıned them. They declared that the meal they had was the best pork they ever tasted - strange I thought to eat pork ın Turkey. Nevertheless, we all ordered what they had...ıt turned out to be tasty, but ıt was lamb. Comıng from the...

Trabzon, Turquia Frustrante.
