Mar 1, 2013 - Sugar Beach at Ölüdeniz, near Fethiye

Today was a stunning day. We walked along the road to the National Park, paid 5TL each for entry and walked around along the paved paths through the park to the end of the peninsula looking back over the lagoon to sugar beach. Pictures show this lovely beach covered with sunbeds in the summer, but today it was almost deserted and so peaceful. The café overlooking the main beach was open and we had çay and beer and sat in the sun watching the paragliders launch off Baba Daği and land on the beach.

We had joined a motorhome subscription site called motorhomefacts.com recommended by Russ in Alexandropoulis, and I had “met” Don on line when he answered a question I posted about extending our visas. He had extended an invitation for us to meet when we reached Fethiye. Don and his wife Maureen are English and spend several months of each year in Turkey since they retired. They have travelled all over and Don is an expert on Turkey – now they rent a place near Karaköy and use their van for transport. They drove out to Sugar Beach on...

Feb 25, 2013 - Sugar Beach at Ölüdeniz, near Fethiye

We left Kuşadasi yesterday and drove for 4 hours to Fethiye, on the motorway most of the way. After Muğla we passed through some unusual landscape with rocks and boulders shaped by the weather, some piled high and looking ready to tumble down. We also passed a long stretch of soft toy sellers as we descended a hill; donkeys and sheep etc. all lined up in long rows on the asphalt. We stopped at the Kipa supermarket in Fethiye before negotiating a detour for a closed road as we drove on to Ölüdeniz, down the steep hill to the coast and turned...

We lazed in the sun for five days, getting quite tan while taking in the touristed Olüdeniz beach near Fethiye on the Mediterranean coast. The highlight of our trip was a day trip boat tour along the coast, where we jumped straight into the crystal clear blue waters from the boat at several different spots.
