Feb 28, 2005 - Back in Iskenderun

On Monday, February 28, 2005, at 3 PM Sinan's mother had a heart attack and died shortly later at the hospital. We were still in Mersin and immediately headed back to Iskenderun. 2 1/2 hours later we were greeted by 100+ mourners who had come to the house to assist in any way they can. I cannot convey the sadness and heartbreak. We did not stop as we drove home in silence. How thankful we are to Mahmut for allowing us to use his car. Feb 23, 2005 - Turkish Bath Experience

Going to the Hamam with Fatma I wanted to go to a Hamam, Turkish Bath, in Turkey and Fatma decided to take me. Before going we needed to pack a few things: a plastic bowl, towels, Daphne soap, shampoo, and a variety of scrubbing loofahs. Sinan applied Daphne oil to our hair an hour before we left home and we took a large bottle of water with us, as I was warned that it would be hot. Upon entering we had a choice; $2.30 for the bath, or $5 for the bath and scrubbing. We paid our 3 YTL (new Turkish Lira), were given small sarongs, and went...

Feb 20, 2005 - Traveling to Iskenduren

Saturday we relaxed with Sinan's friends. At 8 PM we boarded a bus to take us to Iskenduren (Sinan's family home). The bus is very comfortable...as far as buses go...which is a good thing since this was a 14 hour trip. The bus is crewed by 4 very professional staff. The Captain (driver), 2 hostess (attendendants) and 1 co pilot who rests and prepares to drive when the Captain becomes tired.
