FARMING IN TURKEY - November 1st to November 12, 2007 After our busy journey to Crete, Barry was eager to work on the garden again. Since the rains, everything was springing up. The garlic we planted was about 10cm high and arugula, chard and spinach were poking up through the seagrass mulch. THE RAINS COME TO THE MEDITTERANEAN - IN TURKEY Two things happen when I come to Turkey: 1. It is Bayram, a Muslim religious holiday where most things are shut, the faithful eat lots of sweets or goats and it rains. The Mediterranean climate is very hot and dry in summer and there are rather strong autumn rains resulting from cold fronts colliding with the warm sea.
