Apr 15, 2013 - Retour à Sidi Bou Said

Mar 26, 2012 - Tunisie - Le grand tour
Bonjour!

Feb 27, 2012 - Tunis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunis 2-27 Exploring Dizerte and Cornish and then traveling by bus to Tunis, I've noticed piles of trash and garbage, more and more all along the way. Also, talking with the receptionist at Hotel Atlas and gal at the internet both who spoke reasonable English, I learned that since the revolution laws have not been enforced w.r.t. land ownership. Their opinion was that people have taken advantage of the situation and built on land not their own or w/o permission or permits. Likewise, because the revolution began...

LATEST ON FLOODING IN TUNISIA...JUST AFTER WE LEFT!! Floods 5 March 2012 Wiki Info on Bizerte 2-26 Took a trip to Bella Regia Wiki Info on Bella Regia and then tried to continue on to Chemtou but there was a blockade on the street (the driver seemed to indicate that it was a political deal). We took off by louage at noon direct to Bizerte - virtually no wait. On the way we saw a lot of evidence of extensive flooding, army in one village (Bou Salem) and even a boat helping people. In Bizerte we checked out two LP hotels, Hotel de la Plate -...

Feb 24, 2012 - Jendouba after Red Lizzard Train
Flooding in NW of Tunisia Red Lizard Train Wiki Info Jendouba 2-24-12 Well, as in most things when you plan them inevitably the plan will change. Today we headed out to the louage (van-type bus used extensively here) station early since a Brit fellow we spoke to said he barely made it to the train (Red Lizard) having left at 8am. We are 15 minutes earlier but it seems that waiting for the louage to fill will easily use up our 15 minute advantage, ha I don't know why the Brit fellow had trouble getting to train, turns out it only took 45...

Feb 22, 2012 - Matmata
Wiki Info Matmata 2-22-12 To Tozeur via Gabes ... 9am to 11 o??. Here in Berber country as in many places throughout the world where old/ancient civilizations are dying or collapsing the youth are many times serving as guides for tourists anxious to see these people before they disappear- What is most interesting is that the specialization (IT, world market, etc) that is making many of the places less attractive to the young exposed via media to urban consumption, may also in the end make the subsistence/rural lifestyle more viable. In my...

Feb 19, 2012 - Tataouine via Gabes and Medenine
Wiki Info Tataouine Our first complete day of just travel...out of hotel by _a, to train station where we just missed the train. The kind fellow there saw our displeasure and told us we could catch it at the next town. So 5 dinars later we did just that. The typical pushing/shoving game to get on and in a seat. Of course, Bon being practiced at it got us all seats poste haste. A 4 hour ride to Gabes; then 2 hours to Medenine, then 2 more to Tataouine arriving at 5pm or so. Short walk to Hotel Hamsa and another helpful proprietor told us our...

Feb 15, 2012 - Tunis via Washington DC & Frankfurt
Our travels via air were just as expected, long, cramped and uneventful...saw lots of snowcapped mountains in Europe and everywhere cold, cold! The seats DC to Frankfurt were next to servral crying babies (pleased Bon no end, ha!), but fortunately, the stewardess asked if we'd change our seats to accommodate 2 other members of the family. YES! Our reward a complimentary wine to boot! 4 movies and 20+ hours later we landed in Tunis @ 11:30am their time. Waited for Mari's flight 2 hours...then catch up talking, dressing again to combat the...
