Nov 30, 2012 - Visited the Old City in Sukhothai
Spent the day hiring a couple old bikes (for 30 baht each- about 65p) and gently peddled our way around the old historical city at Sukhothai. After the luxuries of the hotels we stayed at on the River Kwai we are - how should I put it - at the opposite end of the market in a cheap guesthouse (~£11 for 2 nights). To make matters worse there is swampy land all around with stagnant water but remarkably few mozzies. The actual guest house and grounds are quite pleasant but our cabin is probably one of the oldest and I keep checking for holes...

Mar 7, 2012 - Di capitale in capitale

Feb 22, 2012 - Thailand - Day 44 - Old Sukhothai City
Woke up at 5am, grabbed our motorcycle and headed out on the road by 5:30am. Sukhothai Historical Park is 12kms away from the city center of Sukhothai and we wanted to arrive there prior to sunrise, also the beat the crowds and the extreme heat of the day. We arrived at 6am. Sukhothai was the first kingdom of Thailand established some 700 years ago. The province is located on the lower edge of the northern region, 427kms north of Bangkok, and covers some 6,596 square kms. Established in around 1237 - 1257, Sukhothai literally means "Dawn of...

Feb 21, 2012 - Thailand - Day 43 - Relax & Blog Day in Sukhothia
Slept in until 9:30am, worst night of sleep for me in a while, when I got up and looked in the mirror this morning I knew I had wrecked myself during the night. My head was freezing cold due to the room fan hitting it all night, we only had one thin bed sheet covering us which normally that would have been enough however the temperature gets cooler at night here and drops below 18 degrees Celsius. The bed was as hard as a cement slab and had no give what so ever. I had to keep rolling over onto different sides and on my back so my hips...

Feb 20, 2012 - Thailand - Day 42 - Travel to Sukhothai
We left our hotel room at 10:30am and walked to the sky train. Took a ride to Mo Chit and from there we proceeded to walk through two parks before coming to the main bus terminal. We walked quite far and were feeling the heat of the day, in the second park we decided to take a much needed break and rest for a minute taking in the lovely surroundings of the flowers and greenery. Finally we found the bus terminal and bought two direct tickets to Sukhothai for 1pm, just a little over an hour and a half wait in the terminal before departure. We...

Jump to full entryJan 3, 2012 - Le rythme du routard

Sukhothai is a neat little town filled with all types of ruins. We only spent one night here but it was enough to see the main attractions. We ended up renting peddle bikes for 30 baht each (for the day) and rode all over the park. I didn't use the right settings on my camera that day so some of the pictures didn't turn out so well, but the ruins were very impressive. Pictures of Sukhothai can be found here.

Jan 29, 2011 - nach Sukhothai
We bought bus tickets for Sukhotai, the ancien center from the first Thai Kingdom, foundet by Ramkamhaweng on the End of 13th century. Our last evening in Bangkok we spent with Christie sitting beside the Pool between the town blocks she is living with her family. Passing these blocks you may never imagine how comfortable it's here middle in this crowded and bustling town with the 15 billion inhabitants. Sukhotahi is dividet in an old part - a World Heritage Historical Park - and New Sukhothai, a nice town with good guesthouses like ours...

Dec 15, 2010 - Sukhothai
Today we left Lampang and headed towards Sukhothai. We stopped at a ruined temple with you guessed it more wonderful Buddha statues. Later at another park we cycled around the ruins which was a nice way to go. Both parks are World heritage sites. The large Buddha you can see in the photos is one of favorites I think. Our resort hotel was a welcome sight at the end of the day. We had dinner followed by a group of young people playing music and dancing.

Aug 16, 2010 - Sukhothai - Thailand's Glory Days
We’re now heading to northern Thailand, our favorite part of this fantastic country. We normally base ourselves in Chiang Mai (or the more northern Chiang Rai) and plan to do so again this year. By far the most comfortable way to make the trip is via overnight sleeper train. Hop on in the evening in Bangkok, go to bed, and wake up the next morning in Chiang Mai. It doesn’t get any easier than that. This year, however, we decided to explore a few of the areas between these two cities that we’d not yet been to. Our first stop was at the...

Jul 16, 2010 - Sukhothai
