Jan 5, 2012 - tomorrow to Kho Chang

Hello guys, tomorrow I'm going to head on from Pattaya to Kho Chang. By Minibus. We booked it at a watch maker's shop. So I'll see if it is going to be as chaotic as the transfer from the airport to Pattaya. This city does its best to make...

Mar 17, 2011 - Pattaya 10th - 14th March

The next part of our trip was spent in Pattaya, on the eastern side of the Thai Gulf. The most we had seen of Pattaya was on the TV show Big Trouble In Thailand, which centred on Walking Street where all the clubs and lady boys are. It looked fun so off we went. The train ride there was nice. Went through alot of nice countryside. A Thai boy on the train was very smiley! He was smiling at everything and really was funny! When we arrived at our hotel the owner (a British guy) seemed to have a bit of a problem, he gave us a drink and...

Jun 5, 2010 - Pattaya

5th June  We got uo early to hit the famous weekend Market before we headed to pattaya. It was huge! Arriving on the sky train we could see aircraft hanger after aircraft hanger and then the individual stalls overspilling out. It spanned 2 station stops. Inside they sold everything including realy refined botique style stalls. Only problem was everything was in a petite as Asians ate tiny proportioned. Had to ask for MASSIVE size in flipflops (as my tailored ones broke!) and then they like to charge extra for extra large size! Emma got some...

Oct 19, 2009 - pattaya

been here in pattaya for three days. Not really keen on the place at all - sat on the beach for about half an hour and were absolutely bombarded by vendors of everything from bbq prawns to watches, to pornography! so not sorry to be moving on, but been made very welcome at the thai branch of the british legion where we are staying. tomorrow we head to konchanaburi, i.e. Bridge over the river kwai. We have been investigating best method of getting there and really need to go back into bangkok to get the connection, which is bit of a pain....

Aug 15, 2009 - Thai delicacies

Okay, this is a set of photos showing some of the crazy things people eat in Thailand. The first set of photos is my hotel manager and staff eating cockroaches, crickets, and ants. The second set is of a "critter" vendor cart. On it are cockroaches, beetles, crickets, mini frogs, ants, locusts, etc. The videos are of someone eating live guppies in hot spices.

May 17, 2009 - Ladyboys

When I was a young boy I remember a guy on television called Danny La Rue who was what was called at the time a "female impersonator". He was always dressed up in frumpy dresses, but his behaviour is best described as "camp", in that even though he was dressed as a woman you knew he was a man. I also remember Dick Emery sometimes dressing up as woman, but again such that you knew that he was a man under all of the makeup. I guess the same can be said of Barry Humpries as Dame Edna. I went to an all boys school, and I have to admit that at...

May 16, 2009 - Pattaya

Pattaya, Thailand. You don't bring your children here. Or your grandparents. Many of the men do not appear to be with their wives. But they have "companions". Activities are generally bar based, and don't take place before noon. Is it fun? You bet.......

Asia Journey

May 6, 2009 - Pattaya

I met up with Ilona in Bangkok and we agreed to start our little trip with a short visit to Pattaya. Actually this was more my idea, just to see if Pattaya is a bad as everyone says it is. Pattaya's slide into the world of vice began in the 60's during the Vietnam war era where the GI's decided that this sleepy fishing village would be their destination of choice for some 'relaxation'. Pattaya just has to be the sex tourism capital of the world and all this in a country where prostitution is illegal, not that anyone takes much notice of the...

Apr 30, 2009 - Final Images From Thailand

These are few images from my last month in Pattaya. I lost many weeks of them when I lost my camera. Thai New Year, which takes place in mid-April and lasts for about a week was particularly crazy. Image all day parties in every location and of course, water. During that period, everyone gets doused with water everywhere they in that town. You can not go anywhere that week without getting drenched. Thailand, and Pattaya in particular, was an absolute blast. Great, and I made some great friends who I hope to see again in the near future. I...

Mar 28, 2009 - Pattaya

Slept in! What luxury! After breakfast it was back to the pool. I am starting to get used to this. Later on we went for a walk along the beach. It was low tide and the water goes out a long way out in the bay. Much of the beach is taken up by deck chairs and umbrellas. These are available for hire for about 30 baht (just over a dollar) and seem to be mainly used by some (very white) Europeans. The deck chair hire scheme is used a lot in Europe but for an aussie it just seems a bit odd and we are quite happy to sit on the sand, what...

Mar 18, 2009 - Random images from various nights out

These are just random images from various crazy nights out in Pattaya from early to late March. On one particular night, for my friend Adam's birthday, he convinced us to dress up like chicks and go out on the town. That was an interesting evening to say the least. This is the first update in a long time, so I just wanted to get some of these out there. At one point, I lost my camera, with a few weeks worth of images in it, so these are the leftovers.

Mar 9, 2009 - Pattaya via Bangkok

We left the cushy JW Marriott early in the day, and headed for Phuket airport. We flew to Bangkok, rented another car and drove to Pattaya on the eastern gulf coast of Thailand. Scott had a business meeting in the area the following day, and we were advised that this was the beach closest to the customer. It turns out Pattaya was best known as a hedonistic, trashy and overpopulated tourist metropolis. To say this place was a stark contrast to our previous Phuket stay would be gross understatement… this was almost comical. Really much like...
